About Wolt
Wolt is a Helsinki-based technology company founded in October 2014 by six co-founders including Miki Kuusi, Elias Aalto, and Mika Matikainen. The company began as a restaurant delivery service in its home city of Helsinki, Finland, addressing the unique logistics challenges of low-density Nordic cities with a focus on operational efficiency and a sleek user experience. Originally conceptualized as a “mall in your pocket,” Wolt quickly scaled from ten local restaurants to become a multi-vertical commerce platform.
By 2026, Wolt operates in over 30 countries and more than 1,000 cities globally. The platform has evolved beyond just food delivery to include groceries, pet food, flowers, and other goods, connecting customers who want to order with local businesses and delivery partners. This expansion reflects Wolt’s mission to build the delivery infrastructure for “almost everything” rather than just restaurant meals.
In May 2022, Wolt was acquired by DoorDash in an all-stock transaction, with CEO Miki Kuusi taking on the role of head of DoorDash International. Despite the acquisition, Wolt maintained its brand identity and continued its significant international growth trajectory. The company is recognized as a self-described “technology company known for its food delivery platform” that has facilitated over €19 billion in economic activity since its founding.
