About this role.
Actian is seeking an AI-First Full-Stack Software Engineer to build features for its enterprise Data Intelligence Platform. The role covers backend services, frontend interfaces, technical design, code reviews, production troubleshooting, and incident response. The engineer will use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor responsibly to accelerate delivery while retaining strong engineering judgment. Ideal candidates have production SaaS experience, end-to-end ownership, cloud and CI/CD knowledge, and familiarity with Scala or Java, TypeScript, Angular, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. This position emphasizes autonomy, iterative delivery, security, product collaboration, and maintainable high-performance software.

Sample interview questions
I use AI assistants to accelerate boilerplate, generate test ideas, compare implementation approaches, and summarize unfamiliar code paths. I validate all generated output through design review, security checks, tests, and my own understanding of the system; the tool accelerates work but does not replace engineering accountability.
I would begin by clarifying the user outcome, constraints, and acceptance criteria with product and relevant stakeholders. I would define API contracts, data-model implications, authorization requirements, failure handling, observability, and rollout strategy before implementing vertical slices across the backend and UI. I would then add automated tests, request peer review, deploy through CI/CD, and monitor adoption and production behavior.
I apply least-privilege access controls, secrets management, encryption in transit and at rest, input validation, dependency scanning, logging, and auditability. For maintainability, I favor clear service boundaries, automated tests, infrastructure consistency, documented runbooks, and measurable operational signals such as latency, error rates, and resource utilization.
I would first assess customer impact, scope, and severity, then use dashboards, logs, traces, recent deployment history, and dependency health checks to form and test hypotheses. I would communicate status clearly, mitigate impact through rollback, feature controls, or scaling where appropriate, and document the root cause and preventive actions after resolution.
I make priorities and assumptions visible early, break ambiguous work into deliverable increments, and seek feedback before investing heavily in a direction. I take ownership of outcomes, proactively identify risks and dependencies, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and share reusable learning through documentation and team discussions.
Actian is the company behind the Data Intelligence Platform — an enterprise solution that helps organisations discover, govern, and trust their data at scale. Our platform connects metadata, data lineage, data quality, and business context into a single knowledge graph, enabling enterprises to turn raw data into reliable decisions. We operate globally, move fast, and build for the long term.
Software engineering is being redefined. The engineers who will shape the next decade of product development are not the ones who write the most code — they are the ones who know how to think clearly, ship confidently, and use every tool available to them, including AI, to multiply their impact.
We are looking for an AI-First Software Engineer who is a builder by instinct. You are comfortable picking up a feature end-to-end, making architectural decisions, writing production-grade code, and shipping without waiting to be told what to do next. You treat AI coding assistants not as a novelty but as a core part of your workflow, using them to accelerate development, reduce boilerplate, explore solutions faster, and stay focused on what actually requires your judgment.
You will join one of our feature teams working on the Actian Data Intelligence Platform.
What You Will Do
Design and implement new features across the full stack of the Actian Data Intelligence Platform, from backend services to frontend interfaces, with a focus on correctness, performance, and maintainability.
Use AI tools actively and deliberately, not as a replacement for engineering judgment, but as a force multiplier that lets you move faster, focus on high performance solutions, write better tests, and spend more time on the problems that matter.
Contribute to technical design sessions and code reviews, bringing a security-first mindset and a bias toward clean, testable architecture.
Participate in incident response and production troubleshooting, treating stability as a shared responsibility.
Share knowledge across the team through technical sessions, documentation, building internal and contribute with AI assisted development best practices.
Strong product mindset, you team with product managers to understand requirements early and translate them into well-scoped technical solutions.
What You Bring
A proven track record of using AI coding assistants — tools like Claude Code or Cursor — and the discipline to know when they help and when they mislead.
Experience developing features for data governance, data catalogs or metadata management platforms in production is a big plus.
Proven experience as a fullstack engineer building and shipping features in production SaaS environments. You have end-to-end ownership in your track record, not just task execution.
Strong practical knowledge of our core stack is a big plus: Scala or Java on the backend, TypeScript and Angular on the frontend. You do not need to be expert in all of them, but you need to be honest about where you are strong and genuinely willing to grow in the others.
Solid understanding of SaaS architecture and cloud fundamentals, particularly on AWS. Comfortable with Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
A genuine agile mindset — not a process checkbox, but an actual preference for short feedback loops, iterative delivery, and collaborative problem-solving.
Full professional proficiency in English.
What We Value
We value autonomy over process, outcomes over activity, and builders over theorists. If you need to be assigned every task, this is the wrong environment. If you thrive when given a problem, a team, and the space to figure it out — you will fit right in.
What We Offer:
- The chance to be part of an innovative, fast-growing company making a significant impact in the data management space.
- Collaboration with a passionate and diverse team.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Flexible work arrangements (remote or hybrid).
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
