Sample interview questions
I begin by understanding the business roadmap, team structure, delivery risks, and leadership priorities. I then use qualitative feedback and people data to identify themes such as manager capability, retention risk, workload, or unclear accountabilities, and co-create focused actions with leaders. I track outcomes through agreed measures such as engagement, attrition, internal mobility, and performance-cycle completion.
I would establish the facts through confidential, impartial conversations and review relevant policies, documentation, and local legal requirements. I would communicate clearly about process and expectations, assess immediate risks, and recommend proportionate actions that ensure fairness and consistency. I would document decisions carefully and coach the manager on sustained behavioral and team-management improvements.
I would first clarify the business rationale, intended operating model, affected population, legal requirements, and decision rights. I would build a structured change plan covering stakeholder communication, manager enablement, employee consultation where required, transition support, and risk management. After implementation, I would monitor engagement, retention, workload, and organizational effectiveness to address unintended impacts.
I focus on metrics that connect directly to a business question, rather than presenting data in isolation. For example, I might combine attrition, engagement feedback, promotion rates, span of control, and hiring data to identify capability or retention risks in an engineering group. I translate the findings into a concise recommendation, expected impact, and measurable next steps for leaders.
I would establish regular operating rhythms, learn each leader’s business context, and follow through consistently on commitments. I would adapt communication to different time zones and cultural contexts while remaining direct, confidential, and transparent about risks. Trust grows when leaders see that I can challenge constructively, offer practical solutions, and represent both employee experience and business needs fairly.
