Professor of English

I am a strong career-oriented candidate with expertise in English as a Foreign Language, dedicated to providing excellent training to organizations in both corporate and not-for-profit sectors. Over the past several years, I have taught English to professional students, including those studying nursing and nutrition, at Universidad del Istmo in Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico. My teaching approach includes visual aids, grammar instruction, homework assignments, and active class participation. I am responsible for attendance, level testing, and final grade submission.

Previously, I worked as an ESL Instructor at the Boston Academy of English, where I taught students from diverse linguistic backgrounds including Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Eastern Asian languages. I delivered general English courses from basic to fluency levels and specialized business English classes tailored to individual student needs, such as running business meetings and delivering presentations. I also facilitated writing workshops focused on creative writing and job proposal design.

My experience extends to the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, where I taught ESL to adult learners, primarily Spanish and Brazilian students, covering beginning to intermediate levels, business English, and advanced American slang and idioms. I also prepared students for the TOEFL exam, utilizing modern technology like smart boards and rear projection systems to enhance learning.

Earlier in my career, I served as an English Instructor and Event Coordinator at Kaplan, Inc., teaching teenagers and business students, focusing on business English, TOEFL, and TOEIC preparation. I worked with advanced students preparing for college entrance exams and business executives aiming to improve their English proficiency.

I have also taught English and History at various international schools in Colombia and Honduras, coordinating afterschool ESL programs and developing forward-thinking lesson plans. My teaching philosophy emphasizes freedom of expression, constructive criticism, and fostering correct study habits. I am proficient in integrating multimedia tools to guide students in listening, speaking, and writing English effectively.

I am fully fluent in German, both written and spoken, and possess strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PeopleSoft, and various language software applications. My educational background includes a Master's degree in English Education and a Bachelor's degree in Education and History from the University of Massachusetts, as well as a TEFL certificate from the American Institute for English Studies.
