About

Professional summary

I am a senior software engineer with 25 years of experience spanning embedded systems, network infrastructure, cloud platforms, distributed services, and game technology. I am backend-first, systems-minded, and focused on building reliable software that delivers measurable outcomes.

I design and own architectures from initial API and data-model decisions through deployment, production monitoring, incident response, and long-term modernization. My experience includes microservices, event-driven systems, multi-tenancy, identity and access management, observability, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD.

I have spent over a decade delivering production services and platforms using Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, C++, Java, Ruby, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP. I am comfortable moving across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and developer tooling when the problem requires it.

Earlier in my career, I developed embedded software and network infrastructure for carrier-grade access equipment, high-security routing platforms, and ISP operations. This background gives me deep experience with networking protocols, performance constraints, debugging, reliability engineering, and field support.

I lead through technical direction, design reviews, mentoring, documentation, and close collaboration with product, design, QA, and operations teams. I value ownership, pragmatic decision-making, clear communication, and engineering practices that make teams faster without compromising quality.

I use AI-assisted engineering tools including Claude Code, Claude, Codex, and GitHub Copilot in my daily workflow. I apply them to accelerate implementation, exploration, prompt evaluation, and work across languages while maintaining a high bar for correctness, maintainability, and production readiness.

Career history

Generalist Software Engineer Electronic Arts

Contributed to American football game titles, underlying engine components, and development tools within a large multi-studio codebase. Worked under strict integration, branching, milestone, certification, and release processes across multiple platforms.

Triaged crashes using telemetry, crash aggregation, and minidump analysis; investigated nondeterminism, race conditions, and memory corruption; and reproduced and fixed defects from QA, certification, and live-service teams. Refactored game code for new engine APIs, supported production troubleshooting, and coordinated release activities with production, art, design, QA, and release engineering.

Software Engineer Independent Consultant

Provided software engineering consulting focused on AI training and model development, alongside personal development projects, experimentation, and grant pursuits during a partial sabbatical.

Developed and optimized AI training pipelines for clients to improve model accuracy and training efficiency. Performed prompt engineering and systematic prompt evaluation using defined criteria rather than one-off output assessment.

Senior Software Engineer Aditazz Inc.

Designed and delivered a multi-service SaaS platform and web-based 3D editor for spatial placement and architecture workflows. Owned microservices end to end, including API contracts, implementation, deployment, monitoring, on-call operations, multi-tenant isolation, authentication, authorization, SAML, OAuth2, and enterprise integrations.

Built event-driven processing, long-running geometry and optimization workflows, PostgreSQL and MongoDB data models, Python DSLs, solver integrations, CAD/BIM ingest and export, and browser-based 3D features with React and WebGL. Containerized and operated services on Docker and Kubernetes, built Jenkins and GitHub Actions pipelines, established observability and deployment practices, led architecture reviews, mentored engineers, and drove reliability, scalability, and cost improvements.

Software Engineer Calix

Maintained and enhanced a large legacy C, C++, and embedded Java codebase for carrier-grade network access devices. Supported the full feature lifecycle for an edge access product line across multiple software releases.

Resolved defects through static analysis and systematic debugging of build and test failures. Collaborated directly with QA and field support on customer escalations, supported releases into field deployment, and applied code review and automated testing practices to maintain product reliability.

Software Engineer Occam Networks

Developed passive optical network and device-management functionality for network access concentrators. Implemented PON technologies, OMCI and ONT provisioning, management interfaces, CLI tooling, embedded web UI capabilities, and Java element-management and provisioning tools.

Optimized control-plane and data-plane paths under constrained CPU and memory budgets, improving multicast, IPTV, latency, and high-subscriber-count performance. Designed alarm, statistics, performance-monitoring, syslog, TR-69, and operational tooling while producing technical specifications, interface documentation, and release notes.

Software Engineer Terawave Communications

Developed embedded C software for GPON OLT line cards and ONT units running on Linux and RTOS targets. Implemented transmission and configuration protocols while measuring performance and reliability impacts.

Created SNMP and HTTP device-management capabilities, including SNMP agent extensions, private MIBs, embedded web and CLI provisioning interfaces, monitoring, and firmware upgrade support. Built automated test harnesses and traffic-generation scripts and conducted functional, interoperability, stress, and long-run stability testing.

Software Engineer Network Technologies Institute

Built embedded software for high-security IP routing platforms intended for long-term, low-intervention deployment. Implemented IP, ICMP, IPsec, PPP, DNS, X.25, VPN, tunneling, protocol parsers, and state machines based on RFCs and internal specifications.

Developed management applications and cross-platform C++/Qt diagnostic tools for Windows and Linux. Diagnosed field and lab networking issues using packet captures, traffic generators, GDB, JTAG probes, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes; supported regulatory acceptance testing, code reviews, second-line field support, and ISO 9001:2000 quality auditing.

Network Engineer LANCK Telecom

Operated and maintained ISP edge routers, core switches, backbone routing, subscriber provisioning, and network services. Managed dual-homed BGP sessions, route filters, RIPE NCC records, IP allocations, reverse DNS, OSPF, RIP, PPPoE, DHCP, RADIUS, VLANs, QoS, and dedicated customer circuits.

Administered Linux and Solaris infrastructure including DNS, mail, web hosting, dial-up billing, monitoring, backups, and network operations tooling. Served as tier-3 escalation and primary on-call engineer, maintained 99% uptime over twelve months, improved traffic measurement through SNMP, syslog, and NetFlow monitoring, and wrote runbooks and operational documentation.
