About

Professional summary

I am a PhD researcher in robot learning working at the SUPSI Automation, Robotics and Machines Laboratory and Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. My work focuses on generative robotic policies, diffusion models, imitation learning, and vision for human–robot collaboration.

I develop robust manipulation systems that transfer research methods to real robots. I have built data-generation and language-guided diffusion-policy frameworks for multi-skill robotic manipulation, validating them in simulation and on platforms including Franka Emika Panda, Franka Research 3, and FANUC CRX robots.

I specialize in Dynamic Movement Primitives, diffusion policies, vision-language-action models, and learning from demonstration. My research also includes personalized collaborative transport, real-time velocity scaling, preference learning, and ergonomic evaluation for human-centered robotics.

I work on RGB-D activity recognition for industrial human–robot collaboration, using transformer-based few-shot methods and multimodal datasets. I have integrated perception outputs with hierarchical task planners to enable robots to anticipate operators' assembly actions in real time.

I have contributed to Horizon Europe projects, leading research development, experimentation, and system integration for collaborative robotic cells using ROS 2, natural-language intent recognition, 6D object pose estimation, and human-aware control.

Alongside research, I teach diffusion models, robotics, and physics at MSc and BSc level. I am an Italian citizen with a Swiss B permit and expect to be available from September 2027.

Notice period: Available from September 2027

Career history

Scientific Collaborator & PhD Candidate SUPSI Automation, Robotics and Machines Laboratory / Università della Svizzera italiana

Develop generative robot policies for robust and generalizable manipulation. Built DynaMimicGen, a Dynamic Movement Primitive-based data-generation framework that synthesizes manipulation datasets from one or two human demonstrations and improves downstream diffusion-policy performance in simulation and on real Franka Emika Panda hardware.

Developed DROM, a language-guided diffusion framework for learning and composing 17 manipulation skills into long-horizon instructions. Validated the approach on FANUC CRX-25iA and Franka Research 3 robots.

Conduct research on vision-based activity recognition for industrial human–robot collaboration, including a multimodal RGB-D dataset, transformer-based few-shot recognition, and integration with a Hierarchical Task Network planner. Contributed to the Horizon Europe Fluently project by developing and integrating ROS 2 collaborative robotic-cell capabilities, and supervised one MSc student.

Teaching Assistant — Diffusion Models Politecnico di Milano

Prepared and delivered MSc-level lectures, exercise sessions, and Python laboratories on diffusion models for approximately 100 students.

Covered forward and reverse diffusion processes, ELBO, DDPM, score-based models, conditioning, and applications of diffusion policies to robot learning. Created and maintained an open-source educational repository with theory notes and runnable code examples.

Teaching Assistant — Robotics SUPSI

Taught BSc-level lectures and laboratory sessions on ROS 2, robot kinematics, and computer vision for 25 students.

Supervised hands-on robotics projects and graded coursework and assignments.

Teaching Assistant — Physics SUPSI

Taught first-year BSc physics lectures and laboratory sessions covering classical mechanics, fluids, and thermodynamics.

Prepared problem sets and quizzes, led written-exam preparation sessions, and graded assignments and examinations.
