About

Professional summary

I’m an independent full-stack developer based in California, working through my own company, oleo.dev. I design, build, deploy and maintain production web and mobile applications end to end, from database schema and APIs to polished front ends, payments and hosting. I’m an MIT graduate, a lifetime member of Mensa, and a published author. Before I wrote code full-time, I spent more than five years designing websites and marketing landing pages. That background shapes how I build: how a product looks, reads and feels are all part of the process for me, not just technical soundness.

I take products from concept to launch and keep them running. That covers architecture decisions, front-end and back-end development, authentication, subscription billing, deployment, and ongoing performance and maintenance work. I’m comfortable owning a feature or a whole product with limited direction, and I work just as well inside a small team that reviews each other’s code and shares context.

Languages and frameworks: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, React Native, Node.js, Express
Data: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Prisma
Services: Stripe (billing), Clerk (authentication), Anthropic API (LLM features)
Deployment: Vercel, Fly.io
Design: responsive layouts, landing pages, UI polish
AI tooling: Claude, GitHub Copilot and Cursor, used daily

SELECTED PROJECTS

- postRabbit: an AI content-generation tool built on the Anthropic API. I built it solo, from product design and LLM integration to auth, billing and deployment, and launched it with paid monthly subscriptions in February 2026.
- geoSync: rebuilt from MERN to Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL and Prisma after I found the original MongoDB schema was working against the app’s relational data. I fixed the foundation instead of patching around it.
- Oleoflix: traced cold-start latency to the hosting setup, moved the backend from a free tier to Fly.io, and cleaned out dead dependencies and deployment leftovers.
- FinCoach: a personal-finance project, live alongside my other production apps.
Client mobile app: a React Native app I’m building for a client, working from requirements through release.
- DayOne: a reentry-support app I’m building to help people handle practical steps like documents, appointments and resources.

I own outcomes and I flag problems early, including when I think a requirement is wrong.
I’d rather fix the foundation than layer workarounds on a bad one.
I use AI tools to move faster, and I review what they produce as carefully as my own code.
I write clearly. Besides my book, Beige: An Unlikely Trip Through America’s Racial Obsession, I’ve published articles in The Progressive and Narratively, so documentation, specs and written updates are things I do well.
I ship in small, safe steps and care about the details: spacing, speed, accessibility and error handling.

I’m looking for remote full-stack or product-minded engineering work, full-time or contract, with a small, high-trust team where I can own meaningful pieces of the product and work close to users. I’m especially interested in early-stage startups, fintech, AI products and mission-driven companies. I’m on Pacific time and happy to overlap with US or European hours.
