Associated Food Stores

We are Associated Food Stores, a retailers cooperative built to help independent grocers compete and thrive. Founded in 1940, we began with a simple idea: local grocers are stronger when they work together. Our headquarters is in Salt Lake City, Utah, and we support nearly 450 independently owned retail supermarkets across the Intermountain West, including Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, and Wyoming. We provide the scale, supply chain support, and operational resources that independent retailers need while allowing each store to maintain its local identity and community connection. Our cooperative model is designed to preserve local ownership and strengthen neighborhood grocery businesses. We also operate corporate stores and distribution-related functions that help improve service, efficiency, and product availability for our members and customers. Beyond groceries, we work to support local communities through partnerships and fundraising efforts with organizations in the areas we serve. Community involvement is an important part of how we do business. Today, our focus remains on empowering independent supermarket owners with practical support, shared resources, and a commitment to local communities. That mission has guided us since our founding and continues to shape our role in the grocery industry.
