Cost Accounting IFRS NetSuite Financial Reporting Global Collaboration Process Automation Leadership Tech Industry Compliance Data Analytics

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Cost Accounting Manager position at Canonical. With a professional accounting qualification (CPA) and extensive experience in cost accounting under IFRS, I have a proven track record of driving scalable processes and systems automation. My background includes leading cross-functional teams to align cost recognition with operational efficiency, using tools like NetSuite to enhance accuracy and speed.

I am particularly drawn to Canonical's mission to advance open source globally and its innovative distributed work model. I am confident that my expertise in IFRS 16, internal controls, and team leadership will contribute to Canonical's goal of setting the industry pace for reporting. Thank you for considering my application.

Can you describe your experience with cost accounting under IFRS, particularly IFRS 16 and IAS 38?
I have over 5 years of experience applying IFRS 16 for lease accounting, including initial recognition, subsequent measurement, and disclosure. For IAS 38, I have handled capitalization of software development costs, ensuring compliance with recognition criteria and amortization. I also stay updated on new standards like IFRS 18.
How have you driven automation in cost recognition processes?
In my previous role, I led a project to configure NetSuite to automate the cost allocation process, reducing manual effort by 40%. I integrated procurement and expense systems to capture data in real time, and implemented workflows for approval and posting. I also used SQL and Python for data validation and reporting.
Describe a time you managed a cross-functional team to improve cost reporting.
I collaborated with Operations, Legal, and FP&A to redesign the cost lifecycle. We held weekly syncs to align on requirements, and I facilitated workshops to map processes. The result was a unified cost data model that improved month-end closing speed by 30% and enhanced transparency.
How do you ensure internal controls are effective over cost transactions?
I design controls around the procure-to-pay cycle, including segregation of duties, automated approvals, and periodic reconciliations. I also conduct risk assessments and monitor control effectiveness through testing. For example, I implemented a control dashboard in NetSuite to flag anomalies in real time.
Why are you interested in Canonical and this role?
I am passionate about open source technology and Canonical's impact on enterprise innovation. This role combines my accounting expertise with systems automation in a global, distributed environment, which aligns with my career goals. I am eager to contribute to a company that values speed, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
