Sample interview questions
Can you describe your experience with OSHA General Industry standards and how you have applied them in consulting engagements?

I have over 10 years of experience applying 29 CFR 1910 standards. For example, I conducted comprehensive audits for manufacturing clients, identifying hazards and developing corrective action plans. I also designed training programs on lockout/tagout, PPE, and hazard communication.

How do you approach developing training materials for clients with varying levels of safety maturity?

I assess the client's current knowledge and needs through a pre-training survey. Then I customize materials, using a mix of presentations, hands-on activities, and real-world examples. I ensure content is engaging and relevant to their specific industry.

Describe a challenging safety audit you conducted and how you handled non-compliance issues.

In one audit, I found multiple fall protection violations. I documented each issue with photos and references, then presented findings to management. I worked with them to prioritize corrections and provided training on proper harness use and guardrail installation.

As an independent contractor, how do you manage your business operations, including marketing and finances?

I maintain a separate business bank account and use accounting software for invoicing and expense tracking. I market my services through LinkedIn, industry conferences, and referrals. I also invest in professional liability insurance and set aside funds for taxes.

How do you stay current with changes in OSHA regulations and incorporate them into your consulting practice?

I subscribe to OSHA newsletters, attend webinars, and participate in professional organizations like ASSP. I regularly review regulatory updates and update my training materials and audit checklists accordingly to ensure clients receive current advice.
