Cover letter sample

Dear Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the Finance Operations role at Kalshi, where rigorous financial controls and accurate transaction oversight are essential to supporting a regulated, high-growth exchange. My background in financial operations, reconciliations, and data analysis has prepared me to monitor high transaction volumes, investigate exceptions, and produce reliable daily reporting.

I would bring a detail-oriented, ownership-driven approach to improving operational processes while partnering effectively with Finance, Compliance, and cross-functional stakeholders. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to help build scalable financial infrastructure within an innovative regulated market.

Thank you for your consideration; I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to Kalshi's operational excellence.

Sample interview questions
How would you investigate and resolve a discrepancy between internal transaction records and an external settlement or bank report?

I would begin by validating the transaction data source, timing, and reconciliation rules, then compare internal ledger records against bank, payment processor, or clearing records. I would isolate the variance, determine whether it is a timing difference, data issue, or true exception, document the investigation, and escalate material items promptly while ensuring resolution is tracked to completion.

What controls would you implement to maintain accuracy in high-volume financial operations?

I prioritize controls that prevent, detect, and document errors: clear ownership, daily reconciliations, exception thresholds, approval workflows, audit trails, and timely escalation. I would also regularly test control effectiveness and refine procedures as transaction volumes, products, or regulations change.

What would you include in a daily financial activity snapshot for a growing exchange?

I would create an automated or repeatable reporting process that reconciles inflows, outflows, balances, unsettled items, and material exceptions as of a defined cutoff time. The report would include concise operational metrics, variance explanations, and action owners so leadership can quickly assess risk and financial activity.

How do you stay current with financial regulations and translate regulatory changes into operational actions?

I would maintain a structured process for monitoring relevant regulatory updates, translating changes into operational requirements, and partnering with Compliance and Legal to update procedures and controls. I would ensure evidence of compliance is retained and that affected teams receive practical training or guidance.

Describe how you would improve an inefficient financial operations process while maintaining control quality.

I would first map the current workflow and quantify the problem through error rates, processing time, exception volume, and control gaps. After aligning stakeholders on the desired outcome, I would implement a scalable improvement—such as standardization, automation, or a clearer reconciliation process—and measure results after deployment.

What We’re Up To

Kalshi has defined a new category: prediction markets. Kalshi allows people to trade on the outcome of any events and turn any question about the future into a financial asset. Kalshi fought for years and legalized prediction markets in the US for the first time in history. Kalshi is currently the fastest growing financial market in America, and has over 1,900 markets across politics, economics, financials, weather, tech, AI, culture and more.

We believe prediction markets have the potential to be the largest financial market because they turn anything into a financial position.

  • Our vision: well… build the largest financial market on the planet.
  • Our mission: bring more truth to the world through the power of markets.

Building a new category is hard… like, really hard. But it’s beautiful and deeply fulfilling. Our culture is simple: we hire really talented people, work really hard, and enjoy the climb. We are looking for ambitious and exceptional people to join our (relatively small) team to help us build the next generation of financial markets.

What Is Kalshi

Kalshi is the first and only federally regulated exchange where people can trade on any event. Think like the NYSE, but instead of trading stocks, you trade on the events you know and care about. After three years of regulatory struggle, Kalshi’s historic regulatory approval from the CFTC has allowed it to launch a new asset class: event contracts. Event contracts, the fastest-growing asset class today, are elegant financial instruments structured as simple yes/no questions about the future.

In 2024, Kalshi Klear was approved as a Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO) and now manages all clearing activity for its exchange members.

We are looking for passionate and outlier members excited to embark on this voyage toward building the financial system’s next inflection point.

  • Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry standards. Stay updated on changes in financial regulations that may impact our operations.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align financial goals and achieve operational excellence.

We are committed to our vision of building something big… but also useful: a product that brings more truth through the power of markets.

Kalshians are Kalshi’s most important asset: we pick Kalshians carefully, so we trust them fully on day 1.
