About this role.

AI Summary

Dispatch is hiring a mid-level Backend Engineer to build and scale integrations for a wealth-tech data orchestration platform. The role centers on third-party financial-system integrations, API and data-model design, reliable data synchronization, and backend service ownership from design through monitoring. Candidates need 4–6 years of backend experience, strong distributed-systems and relational-database fundamentals, and comfort with Golang, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS SQS, and S3. This is a high-autonomy startup role that requires close collaboration with product, design, frontend engineering, and external system constraints.

Sample interview questions
How would you design a reliable synchronization process between Dispatch and a third-party financial platform with a different data schema?

I would begin by defining a canonical internal data model and explicit field-level mappings, including transformation and validation rules. I would use idempotent operations, durable sync checkpoints, retries with backoff, and a dead-letter path for exceptions. I would also implement observability around sync status, latency, mapping failures, and reconciliation so discrepancies can be detected and corrected safely.

Describe how you would make a third-party API integration resilient to rate limits and intermittent failures.

I would isolate the integration behind a client layer that enforces rate limits, timeout policies, bounded retries, exponential backoff, and jitter. Work would be queued asynchronously where possible, with idempotency keys and persisted job state to prevent duplicate updates. I would distinguish retryable from permanent errors, route exhausted retries to a dead-letter queue, and expose clear alerts and metrics.

What considerations matter when designing a concurrent backend service in Go?

I would keep ownership of shared state explicit, use channels or synchronization primitives appropriately, and avoid unbounded goroutine creation. Context propagation, cancellation, timeouts, backpressure, and bounded worker pools are important for operational safety. I would validate the design with race detection, load tests, structured logging, and metrics around queue depth, error rates, and request latency.

How would you approach investigating a data mismatch reported by a customer after a synchronization job completed successfully?

I would first use correlation IDs and audit logs to trace the source record, transformation steps, outbound request, third-party response, and resulting internal state. I would compare raw source data against canonical and destination representations to identify whether the issue arose from mapping, timing, API behavior, or a stale record. After resolving the immediate issue, I would add a regression test, reconciliation control, or monitoring signal to prevent recurrence.

How do you balance speed and quality while working in an early-stage startup with evolving requirements?

I clarify the customer outcome and non-negotiable reliability constraints first, then deliver the smallest observable solution that can safely meet them. I make trade-offs explicit, use feature flags or incremental rollouts where appropriate, and prioritize automated tests around critical data paths. This enables fast iteration while preserving maintainability and reducing the risk of customer-impacting failures.

About Us

The financial advisory industry is a $80T market in the US, but has seen little technological innovation compared to the self-service market (Robinhood, Betterment, Wealthfront, SoFi). Client data management is a universally painful and expensive problem for financial advisors. Today, advisors manually collect, update, and utilize client data across the 7-10 software tools that they use to run their business. Data transcription and translation across systems is time-consuming and error-prone, leading to costly inefficiencies and embarrassing client-facing problems. Managing data access control, audit logs, and compliance is a constant challenge, particularly in larger organizations.

We are building the first wealth tech data orchestration company. We sync client data across a financial advisor’s tech stack, unlocking the efficiency of a fully-integrated software suite with the choice of tools that best fit their business. We are laser-focused on enabling the best technology experiences for advisors and unlocking the potential of the entire wealth tech software ecosystem. We’re an experienced team of start-up operators with deep roots in both tech and advisory. You can learn more about us on our website.
