Sample interview questions
I first clarified the customer and business impact, mapped system dependencies, and identified the highest-risk assumptions. I then proposed a phased design with measurable success criteria, aligned stakeholders on trade-offs, and delivered the solution incrementally while monitoring reliability and performance.
I begin with functional requirements and quality attributes such as availability, latency, consistency, security, and operational cost. I document alternatives and trade-offs, validate critical assumptions through prototypes or load tests, and ensure the selected design has clear ownership, observability, and failure-handling strategies.
I use code reviews, pairing, design discussions, and targeted mentoring to share context and raise engineering standards. I focus feedback on principles and outcomes, encourage ownership, and create reusable guidance so the team can make stronger decisions independently.
I prioritize small, testable changes, automated checks, meaningful code review, and incremental delivery. I distinguish between acceptable short-term trade-offs and debt that creates material risk, then make remediation visible and schedule it appropriately.
I would assess the learner benefit, accuracy requirements, privacy implications, bias risks, explainability, and human oversight needs. I would also define evaluation metrics, test with representative users and data, and implement safeguards, monitoring, and a clear rollback plan before broad release.
