I would first profile the game to separate CPU, GPU, memory, and rendering bottlenecks. I would inspect frame timing, draw calls, object allocation, texture usage, update loops, and expensive DOM or layout activity, then prioritize the highest-impact issue. Typical improvements include batching rendering work, object pooling, reducing state changes, caching calculations, simplifying shaders or geometry, and moving noncritical work off the main update path.
The event loop coordinates synchronous execution with queued asynchronous work such as timers, promises, network events, and rendering callbacks. Long-running synchronous work blocks the main thread, which can delay input handling and frame rendering, causing visible stutter. In a game client, I would keep each frame's work bounded, schedule visual updates with requestAnimationFrame, and break or defer nonessential expensive tasks when appropriate.
I would unit test deterministic game logic, such as scoring, collision rules, state transitions, configuration parsing, and utility functions. I would use mocks for external services, timers, and browser APIs, while adding integration tests for important interactions between systems. For rendering-heavy features, I would also use targeted manual or automated visual regression checks and performance validation where practical.
I would define clear domain models and use explicit state transitions rather than scattering conditional logic throughout UI and gameplay code. Depending on complexity, I might use a finite-state machine or event-driven architecture with well-defined ownership of state. This makes behavior easier to test, reduces invalid transitions, and allows new gameplay states or interactions to be added with less risk.
I would begin by documenting the problem with measurable evidence, such as profiling results, affected scenarios, and expected player impact. I would present viable implementation options, tradeoffs, rollout risks, and test criteria to relevant developers and stakeholders. After alignment, I would implement incrementally, review the change collaboratively, monitor results, and share the learning with the wider engineering community.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
4+ years of experience in JavaScript UI client development in a commercial environment
Strong expertise in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
Solid understanding of Canvas/WebGL rendering cycles
Deep understanding of the Event Loop and synchronous vs asynchronous approaches
Experience in cross-browser development
Strong knowledge of OOP principles and game programming patterns
Experience with Git
