Sample interview questions
I begin by clarifying the theme, audience, game mechanics, visual references, and technical constraints. I develop mood boards and exploratory sketches, align on a direction early, then create final layered artwork with clear naming, separations, and export specifications so animation can proceed efficiently.
It must be readable immediately at gameplay scale, visually consistent with the theme, and distinct from adjacent symbols. I use hierarchy, silhouette, contrast, controlled detail, and strong colour grouping to ensure the asset remains appealing and recognizable during repeated play.
I first identify the underlying product or stakeholder objective rather than defending a particular execution. I discuss trade-offs, offer focused alternatives where useful, and incorporate agreed feedback quickly while preserving visual consistency and production requirements.
I study market patterns to understand player expectations, readability conventions, and current themes, then use that knowledge as a constraint rather than a template. I look for distinctive combinations of theme, shape language, palette, and character treatment that give the game its own identity.
I establish a clear style guide, reusable asset structures, and an approval cadence at key milestones. I prioritize the highest-visibility assets first, keep files organized for downstream animation, and communicate risks early if a change could affect scope or timing.
