Sample interview questions
I would separate request intake, policy validation, transaction construction, signing or custody delegation, broadcast, and settlement monitoring into durable stages. Each stage would use idempotency keys, an immutable audit trail, retries with provider-aware backoff, and a reconciliation process that compares internal records with custody-provider and on-chain states.
I model transaction state explicitly, distinguishing submitted, observed, confirmed, finalized, failed, and reconciled states. The confirmation threshold should be chain- and risk-specific, while downstream systems receive idempotent events and do not treat a transaction as irreversible until the defined finality policy is met.
I would minimize direct key access through an HSM or qualified custody provider, enforce least-privilege service identities, require strong approval policies for sensitive actions, and log all signing requests immutably. I would also implement address allowlists, transaction simulation, velocity limits, anomaly detection, incident runbooks, and regular access reviews.
I would establish a clear integration boundary with typed contracts, timeouts, circuit breakers, rate-limit handling, idempotent request semantics, and observability around latency and error classes. I would also build asynchronous recovery and reconciliation paths so temporary provider outages do not create duplicate transfers or unrecoverable inconsistencies.
I would involve security, compliance, and operations early in design reviews and translate requirements into reusable platform controls rather than one-off manual checks. I would ship incrementally behind feature flags and limits, document risk decisions, monitor real-world behavior closely, and expand exposure only after reconciliation, security, and operational criteria are met.

About the Role
Ramp is, at its core, a fintech company. Our financial infrastructure enables us to issue cards, move money globally, and manage treasury flows for our customers. Stablecoins are emerging as a critical lever to make these flows faster, cheaper, and more accessible.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our engineering team with a dedicated focus on stablecoin-based payment and treasury systems. In this role, you will act as both a technical owner and multiplier: working on core stablecoin services, ensuring secure and reliable integrations with external partners, and guiding Ramp’s evolution toward next-generation fintech solutions.

What You’ll Do

What You Need
Minimum 5+ years of experience shipping high-quality architectures for critical systems preferred
Proven experience with stablecoin technologies, blockchain-based payment rails, and/or wallet infrastructure
Strong production experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent)
Deep proficiency in at least one object-oriented or functional programming language (Python, Go, Java, or similar)
Experience working on security-sensitive systems, with interest in key management, wallet security, or secure transaction flows.
Experience building or operating payments, money movement, treasury, stablecoin, or crypto infrastructure in production environments
Nice to Have
Intuition for on-chain UX and settlement mechanics, including wallet-based transaction signing, confirmation/finality, and chain-level tradeoffs like fees and latency.
Direct experience building on-chain wallets or with integrating a crypto onramp / offramp APIs for custody and remittance flows
Experience integrating with external financial service providers and APIs at scale
Familiarity with cross-border settlement, FX, or treasury management systems
Background in highly regulated fintech environments (e.g., payments, banking, or government-compliant infrastructure)
