About this role.
ClickUp is hiring a Staff Frontend Engineer to build and scale Angular 2+ features for its AI-native work-management platform. The role owns reusable, performant frontend architecture, state management, testing, bug resolution, and delivery against project priorities. It requires close collaboration with product, design, backend, integrations, and QA teams, along with mentorship of other engineers. Candidates need 8+ years of JavaScript experience and strong hands-on expertise in Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, NgRx-style state management, HTML/CSS, accessibility, and cross-browser development. The position is available in Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Hungary, Czechia, and Ireland.

Sample interview questions
I would first define stable domain boundaries and public APIs, then build focused, composable components with clear input/output contracts. Shared state would live in a predictable NgRx-style store only where cross-component coordination is needed, while local UI state remains close to the component. I would document extension points, add unit and integration coverage, and validate performance before broad adoption.
I would start with browser profiling and Angular DevTools to identify whether the bottleneck is rendering, change detection, network activity, or expensive computation. Typical improvements include OnPush change detection, trackBy functions for large lists, memoized selectors, lazy loading, request batching, and virtual scrolling. I would verify the improvement with measurable before-and-after metrics and regression tests.
I use NgRx for state that is shared across features, must be observable and auditable, has complex asynchronous transitions, or benefits from caching and predictable updates. Local component state is preferable for transient presentation concerns such as an open menu or form field interaction. This keeps the global store intentional and avoids unnecessary complexity.
I would use semantic HTML and native controls where possible, provide keyboard interactions and visible focus states, and verify labels, roles, and ARIA attributes only where needed. I would test with automated accessibility tooling plus keyboard and screen-reader checks, then run the supported-browser test matrix. Accessibility requirements should be incorporated during design and code review rather than deferred until release.
I pair mentoring with real delivery work by explaining architectural tradeoffs during design reviews, pairing on challenging implementation details, and giving actionable feedback on pull requests. I set clear ownership boundaries so teammates can make decisions while I provide context and guardrails. I also create reusable documentation and patterns that raise the team’s capability beyond a single project.
