About this role.
This is a six-month, full-time Applied AI Agent Engineer internship in Binance’s Tech Seeds 2026 program for students or recent graduates. The intern will build and evaluate LLM-powered agent workflows, including prompting, retrieval, tool use, orchestration, APIs, backend services, and lightweight interfaces. Key work includes benchmarking systems, diagnosing failure cases, and improving quality, latency, reliability, safety, and cost. Candidates need solid Python or Java skills, comfort with APIs and debugging, and strong interest in production AI systems. The role is hands-on, with meaningful deliverables rather than shadowing.

Sample interview questions
I would define task-specific success criteria, such as answer correctness, successful tool execution, groundedness, latency, and cost. I would build a representative test set containing normal, ambiguous, and adversarial cases, log agent traces, and review failure modes such as poor retrieval, incorrect tool selection, or unsupported final answers. I would then use the results to prioritize targeted prompt, retrieval, or orchestration changes.
I would inspect the full execution trace: user input, retrieved documents, prompt versions, tool calls, tool outputs, and final response. This helps determine whether the issue is missing context, irrelevant retrieval, faulty tool logic, unclear instructions, or model reasoning limitations. I would create a reproducible test case and validate each proposed fix against both the failure case and a broader regression suite.
The central tradeoffs include quality versus latency and cost, as well as autonomy versus reliability and safety. I would select the simplest architecture that meets the use case, use smaller or faster models where appropriate, cache repeated work, set timeouts and fallbacks for tools, and implement monitoring for quality and operational failures. High-risk outputs should also have validation, guardrails, or human review paths.
I would first clarify the user, primary workflow, expected output, and measurable success condition. Next, I would build a minimal end-to-end version with a small set of representative inputs, basic logging, and an evaluation checklist. After collecting evidence from tests or users, I would iterate on the highest-impact limitation rather than expanding features prematurely.
I would agree early on API contracts, input and output schemas, error handling, authentication, observability, and performance expectations. I would keep integration changes small, document assumptions, and use version control and code reviews to make work easy to test and maintain. I would also share evaluation findings so backend and AI components can be improved together based on measurable system behavior.

About the Role
This internship is part of Tech Seeds 2026 — our program to identify and develop AI-native young talent. As an Applied AI Agent Engineer intern, you will take on a hands-on builder role at the intersection of LLMs and production systems, working alongside full-time engineers on agent workflows, tool integrations, backend services, and AI system architecture from day one.
This is not a shadowing role. You will own deliverables, run experiments, and ship code that matters.
What You’ll Do
- Support the design and development of AI agent workflows and LLM-powered application components
- Build and test prompt strategies, retrieval flows, tool-use logic, orchestration patterns, and backend integrations
- Assist in defining evaluation metrics, running benchmarks, and analyzing failure cases
- Improve system performance across quality, latency, reliability, safety, and cost
- Use AI coding tools as a normal part of your workflow to accelerate development and problem-solving
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to understand how production AI systems are designed, deployed, and improved
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, internal tools, or lightweight user interfaces when needed
What We’re Looking For
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- Expected graduation in 2026 or 2027
- Solid programming skills in Python or Java; familiarity with backend engineering is preferred
- Good problem-solving ability and comfort working with APIs, debugging, and data
- Strong curiosity about LLMs, AI agents, automation, and real-world system design
- Ability to break down ambiguous problems and move from idea to working prototype
- Comfortable learning quickly and working in a fast-moving environment
- Available for a 6-month full-time commitment
Bonus Points
- Personal projects or coursework involving LLM applications, agent systems, automation, or AI-assisted development
- Familiarity with OpenAI APIs, Anthropic APIs, Hugging Face, LangChain, vector databases, or workflow tools
- Experience with Git, databases, backend services, or cloud platforms
What Makes You a Fit for Tech Seeds 2026
You are curious, proactive, and builder-minded. You already experiment with AI tools on your own, learn quickly, and want to turn AI ideas into practical systems that work in the real world.
