About this role.
Socket is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer focused on Python to act as a technical bridge between enterprise customers and internal engineering teams. The role combines production Python development, API and webhook integrations, automation, and custom security-rule development for SAST, CVE, and policy use cases. The engineer will own technical onboarding, enterprise rollouts, customer training, configuration optimization, and on-site security engagements for 5–8 accounts. Success requires strong customer-facing communication, DevOps and CI/CD knowledge, and practical familiarity with open-source and software supply-chain security. The remote-first role requires 20–30% travel for customer onsite engagements.

Sample interview questions
I would explain the business problem, the systems involved, and the API or webhook design. I would cover authentication, retries, idempotency, observability, error handling, testing, and how I measured the integration’s reliability and customer impact.
I would first understand the customer’s architecture, threat model, coding patterns, and tolerance for false positives. I would create rules from validated examples, test them against representative repositories, review findings with security and engineering stakeholders, and iteratively tune severity and exceptions to improve signal quality.
I would assess the alert sources, severity distribution, false-positive patterns, and existing triage workflow before changing configuration. I would prioritize high-confidence risks, tune or suppress low-value noise with documented rationale, and provide a measurable plan for improving coverage without overwhelming the team.
For engineers, I would provide technical detail, reproduction steps, tradeoffs, and an implementation plan. For executives, I would focus on business impact, risk level, timeline, ownership, and the decision required, ensuring both audiences have a clear path forward.
I would clarify the underlying outcome and determine whether configuration, an integration, or a temporary workflow can solve it safely. If product work is needed, I would document the use case, business impact, technical requirements, and urgency, then partner with product and engineering while setting transparent expectations with the customer.
