Sample interview questions
How would you investigate a customer's report when the reported revenue does not match their expected figures?

I would first clarify the report name, date range, property, filters, currency, and the source the customer is comparing it against. I would then validate the underlying transactions and mappings, isolate whether the issue is caused by report configuration, timing, exclusions, or data quality, and document the findings. Finally, I would explain the result in business terms and provide corrective steps or escalate a reproducible product issue with clear evidence.

How would you explain RevPAR to a hotelier who is not comfortable with reporting terminology?

I would describe RevPAR as the revenue earned from each room that was available to sell, whether or not it was occupied. It combines occupancy and average daily rate, so it helps show whether the property is converting available inventory into room revenue effectively. I would use the customer's own report values and a simple example to make the metric actionable.

Describe how you use Excel or Google Sheets to clean and analyze a complex reporting export.

I begin by checking data types, duplicates, missing values, date formats, and column consistency. I use formulas such as XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, IF statements, text functions, and pivot tables to reconcile fields, segment results, and identify exceptions. I preserve the raw extract, document transformations, and create a repeatable structure so the analysis can be audited and refreshed.

How do you balance solving an immediate customer reporting issue with identifying a longer-term process improvement?

I first ensure the customer has a timely, accurate answer or workaround. While resolving the case, I capture the root cause, frequency, affected report logic, and any documentation gap. If the issue is recurring, I propose an improvement such as a report enhancement, knowledge-base article, onboarding guidance, or product ticket, then share the evidence with the appropriate team.

What would you do if a customer disagreed with your explanation of a data discrepancy?

I would acknowledge their concern and revisit the issue collaboratively rather than treating it as closed. I would walk through the report criteria and source records transparently, invite them to identify the specific value they believe is incorrect, and test the relevant assumptions. If uncertainty remains, I would escalate with a concise evidence package and keep the customer updated until a verified resolution is reached.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

We are seeking a dynamic Data Reports & Insights Analyst to join our Customer Success team. This role bridges the gap between data services and business intelligence. As a Reports & Insights Analyst, you’ll help Cloudbeds customers turn raw operational and financial data into decisions they can act on. You’ll build, analyze, and optimize reports across our PMS reporting suite, troubleshoot discrepancies before they become customer frustrations, and coach hoteliers on how to read metrics like ADR, RevPAR, occupancy, and channel performance with confidence. Every report you refine and every question you answer on calls or emails, directly shapes how hospitality businesses understand their own performance and grow their revenue.

Our Team:

Data Services sits at the intersection of hospitality expertise and reporting technology, working to make sure Cloudbeds customers never have to guess what their numbers mean. Reporting to your lead, you’ll join a team that partners closely with Product, Onboarding, Support, and Customer Success to keep improving how customers access and interpret their data. It’s a hands-on, collaborative group that treats every reporting question as a chance to make the platform and the customer’s business a little smarter.

What You Bring to the Team:

You’ve spent time inside hotels and property management systems; you understand hospitality data isn’t just numbers on a screen; it’s occupancy, revenue, and guest behaviour telling a story. You’re comfortable with advanced Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, formulas) and have worked with BI or reporting tools involving dashboards, filters, and custom reports. You communicate clearly in written and verbal English, translating technical reporting concepts into plain language for customers who may not be data experts. You’re detail-oriented, adaptable to shifting priorities, and genuinely enjoy solving the puzzle when a report doesn’t add up.

What Sets You Up for Success:

  • Hospitality Tech Background: Direct experience working with Hotel Property Management Systems, channel managers and similar systems
  • Client-Facing Expertise: A proven track record in onboarding, implementation, or Tier 2/3 technical support with a natural ability to teach and guide users.
  • Advanced Spreadsheet Proficiency: Power-user skills in Excel and Google Sheets (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, advanced formulas, and data cleaning).
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong understanding of basic data management principles, data mapping, parsing, and root-cause error analysis.
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision when handling sensitive historical, financial, and guest records.
  • Remote-First Readiness: Highly tech-savvy with cloud-based workflows and equipped with a reliable, high-speed internet connection for video coaching sessions.

Bonus Skills to Stand Out (Optional):

  • Multilingual Capabilities: Professional proficiency (verbal and written) in Spanish or Portuguese.
  • BI & Analytics Familiarity: Prior experience working with business intelligence dashboards or advanced financial reporting structures.
