Sample interview questions
I would first define the partner's role in the media mix and success criteria, such as incremental conversions, reach against a priority audience, efficient qualified traffic, or brand lift. I would compare delivery, reach and frequency, audience quality, attribution signals, and, where possible, a controlled incrementality test against a holdout or comparable market. I would then recommend scaling only if the evidence shows meaningful incremental value at a sustainable cost.
I would diagnose whether the constraint is inventory, targeting, bid or budget settings, creative approvals, frequency caps, or a vendor setup issue. After confirming the issue with the agency or platform, I would prioritize changes that protect campaign objectives, such as broadening approved inventory, adjusting pacing, reallocating budget, or refreshing creative. I would document the change, communicate expected tradeoffs, and monitor results closely after implementation.
I begin with the target audience, campaign objective, flight length, available budget, and channel-specific viewing or listening behavior. I use those inputs to estimate an effective frequency range while ensuring reach is broad enough to create meaningful impact, then assess duplication across channels. During the campaign, I review delivery and saturation signals and adjust allocation or frequency controls if performance suggests diminishing returns.
Incrementality measures the outcomes caused by advertising that would not have happened otherwise. It is important because platform-reported conversions and last-touch attribution can overstate impact by crediting users who may have converted anyway. Methods such as geo experiments, holdouts, matched-market tests, and lift studies help determine where spend is genuinely driving additional business results.
I would lead with the business implication, such as whether the channel should be scaled, refined, or reduced, rather than starting with methodology. I would use a concise visual or summary of the key metrics, explain the confidence level and limitations in plain language, and provide a clear recommended action. For example, I might say that CTV improved incremental customer acquisition in tested markets, but frequency should be capped to preserve efficiency as budget increases.
