Sample interview questions
How would you create an architectural vision for a rapidly growing customer-facing healthcare platform?

I would begin by mapping business goals, customer journeys, clinical constraints, system dependencies, and current reliability risks. I would define a small set of architectural principles and target capabilities, then sequence investments through measurable milestones that balance immediate product delivery with long-term scalability and maintainability.

Describe how you would handle a cross-team system boundary that is unclear or causing repeated delivery friction.

I would gather the affected teams to clarify ownership, data flows, decision rights, and operational responsibilities. Using evidence such as incident history, delivery bottlenecks, and coupling analysis, I would propose an explicit boundary and migration plan, secure leadership alignment, and track adoption through agreed technical and business outcomes.

What approach would you take to improve reliability without stopping feature development?

I would prioritize the highest-risk failure modes using customer impact, incident frequency, and service-level indicators. Then I would embed reliability work into product planning through incremental measures such as better observability, automated testing, safer deployment patterns, capacity planning, and targeted service hardening.

How have you successfully driven adoption of a shared framework or platform across engineering teams?

I focus on solving a real, repeated pain point and involve early adopter teams in shaping the solution. I provide clear documentation, migration tooling, support channels, and success metrics, while using demonstrated improvements in developer velocity, reliability, or cost to build broad adoption rather than relying only on mandates.

How do you mentor senior engineers while preserving their autonomy?

I establish context and high standards, then use design reviews, coaching conversations, and sponsorship opportunities to help leaders make and communicate strong decisions. I avoid prescribing implementation details unless necessary, and instead focus on improving their systems thinking, stakeholder alignment, and ability to create leverage for others.
