Sample interview questions
I begin by clarifying user needs, business goals, constraints, and existing product evidence through stakeholder conversations and content or UX audits. I then define a content strategy that includes principles, prioritized user journeys, messaging requirements, and measurable outcomes. From there, I translate the strategy into practical artifacts such as content models, taxonomy, and voice guidance so design and engineering teams can implement it consistently.
I would first inventory representative content across the product and identify inconsistencies, duplication, gaps, and high-impact journeys. I would establish a shared taxonomy, reusable content patterns, naming conventions, and voice-and-tone rules, then document them in an accessible system. Finally, I would work with design and engineering to integrate the patterns into workflows and governance so the system remains useful as the product grows.
I treat brand voice as a tool for clarity rather than decoration. I identify the core qualities that distinguish the brand, then apply them within plain-language, inclusive, and task-focused content patterns. For critical interactions such as errors, permissions, or transactions, I prioritize comprehension and accessibility while preserving the brand through tone, vocabulary, and supporting microcopy.
The exact set depends on the engagement, but I commonly deliver a content audit, content principles, user-journey recommendations, a messaging framework, taxonomy, initial content model, and voice-and-tone guidance. For interface work, I also provide annotated flows or prototypes with UX copy and reusable patterns. These artifacts create alignment before teams invest heavily in design and development.
I make the disagreement concrete by connecting each viewpoint to user needs, business objectives, product constraints, and evidence. In a workshop, I use shared artifacts such as journey maps, sample flows, and messaging options to move the conversation from personal preference to decision criteria. I document the decision, rationale, and open questions so the team can proceed with clarity and revisit assumptions when new evidence emerges.
