Sample interview questions
I would begin by combining user research, behavioral data, business objectives, and technical constraints to identify the highest-value customer problem. I would turn that insight into a clear experience principle and a tangible future-state prototype, then use it to align leadership and guide incremental roadmap decisions.
I frame the problem, map users and journeys, identify assumptions, and align stakeholders on desired outcomes before exploring multiple concepts. I validate the strongest direction with prototypes and research, work closely with engineering on feasibility, and maintain design quality through detailed interaction specifications and post-launch learning.
I lead through visible craft, clear rationale, generous critique, and reusable standards. By contributing patterns to the design system, sharing decision frameworks, and mentoring colleagues in the context of real work, I can improve both individual execution and the organization’s design quality floor.
AI can accelerate divergent exploration, synthesize research inputs, support prototype creation, and reduce repetitive production work. I use it as a collaborative tool rather than a substitute for judgment, ensuring that user needs, accessibility, brand quality, privacy, and feasibility remain central to final decisions.
I make tradeoffs explicit by connecting each design decision to customer impact, business value, and implementation effort. When constraints require compromise, I seek the smallest experience sacrifice, document the rationale, and establish a path to revisit quality improvements as the product evolves.

Compensation
This is a contract position with an hourly rate of $125–$200 per hour, commensurate with experience and our internal leveling guidelines. Flex takes a market-based approach to pay and utilizes a geographic pay differential based on a cost of labor index; if you are located outside of our Tier 1 (NYC/Bay Area) markets, your rate will be adjusted to align with the market conditions of your specific geographic zone.
