Sample interview questions
I would define the required fields and business rules, then check for missing values, duplicates, inconsistent stage definitions, invalid ownership, and timing issues. I would reconcile key totals with CRM source reports, investigate material variances with data owners, document assumptions, and establish recurring quality checks before publishing the dashboard.
I would compare current pipeline coverage, stage mix, conversion rates, deal aging, close dates, and rep or territory performance against historical trends and forecast assumptions. I would isolate the largest drivers of the shortfall, distinguish data-quality issues from commercial risk, and present concise recommendations such as pipeline-generation actions, close-date reviews, or forecast adjustments.
The dashboard should answer the decisions leaders need to make, rather than show every available metric. I would use consistent definitions for bookings, pipeline, attainment, and forecast; highlight trends and exceptions; provide appropriate filters; and validate the output with end users so it is accurate, readable, and actionable.
I would first document the requirements and create test cases covering standard, edge-case, and permission-based scenarios. I would execute the tests using representative records, compare results with expected outcomes, log defects clearly, retest fixes, and obtain stakeholder sign-off before release.
I begin with the business question and the most important conclusion, then use simple visuals and plain language to explain the supporting evidence. I make assumptions and limitations transparent, focus on the operational impact, and finish with specific recommended actions or decisions.
