Sample interview questions
I begin by reviewing responsive states, reusable components, content requirements, and accessibility needs. I then build a maintainable theme structure and reusable Gutenberg or ACF blocks, test across breakpoints, and compare the implementation against the approved design.
I have created custom editorial blocks using ACF-based and React-based approaches. I focus on clear field configuration, sensible defaults, reusable styling, editor usability, and frontend output that remains performant and accessible.
I would reproduce the issue, inspect browser errors and server logs, isolate the relevant template, module, plugin, or hook, and validate the data flow from the CMS to the rendered page. After implementing a targeted fix, I would test affected content types, permissions, responsive behavior, and regression risks.
I use semantic HTML, keyboard-accessible interactions, appropriate labels and heading hierarchy, optimized images, efficient CSS and JavaScript, and responsive layouts. I also test with browser tools and accessibility checks while avoiding unnecessary dependencies and render-blocking assets.
I clarify requirements early, identify implementation tradeoffs in plain language, share progress frequently, and use concise written updates to document decisions. When feedback changes a design, I confirm the intended user outcome before estimating and delivering the adjustment.
About this role.
Brafton is one of the world’s leading content marketing firms, with offices in Boston, London, Toronto and Sydney. We aspire to continually raise the bar on what people consider “marketing content.” We create result-focused strategies and content to drive SEO, social engagement and leads for our clients. Our teams continuously build expertise across new media formats, including video, blogs, infographics and web design.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer who loves building clean, performant interfaces and knows their way around a CMS well enough to make the backend work for the frontend, not against it. You’ll spend most of your time in HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript — building custom Gutenberg blocks, theming, and pixel-perfect implementations from design mockups — while staying comfortable enough in PHP and WordPress/Drupal internals to troubleshoot, extend, and integrate when needed.
You’ll work directly with our design and consulting teams to turn mockups into fast, accessible, well-crafted websites for clients across a range of industries.
What You’ll Do
Build custom WordPress themes, Gutenberg blocks (ACF or React-based), and plugins from provided designs
Translate mockups into responsive, accessible frontend code using HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript
Work within Drupal for client sites that require it — theming, content types, and module-level troubleshooting
Diagnose and fix frontend and backend issues across a variety of CMS platforms
Collaborate directly with designers, consultants, and occasionally clients to solve problems and refine implementations
Use AI tools like Claude Code to plan out and execute aspects of a large project.
What You Bring
Must-haves
5+ years of professional frontend development — strong HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript fundamentals
3+ years building and customizing WordPress sites, including Gutenberg block development (ACF or React-based blocks)
Solid working knowledge of PHP (7.x/8.x) — enough to read, debug, and extend WordPress/Drupal codebases confidently
Practical Drupal experience — theming, content architecture, or module-level work
Familiarity with WordPress hooks/filters and general LAMP-stack conventions (MySQL, Git)
Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating in a remote, client-facing environment
Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude Code.
Nice-to-haves
Experience with React or Angular
Laravel or Symfony
Docker and Linux environment familiarity
AWS or other cloud platform exposure
Why Brafton
100% remote, full-time role with a US-based team lead and a genuinely collaborative, cross-office culture spanning five countries.
