Sample interview questions
I would first identify reusable page patterns, components, content fields, and responsive behavior. I would then build a semantic theme structure and reusable Gutenberg blocks, typically using ACF or React where appropriate, while validating visual fidelity, accessibility, and editor usability throughout development.
I would reproduce the issue, inspect browser console and network activity, and isolate whether the problem is template output, JavaScript behavior, styles, or plugin interactions. I would use logs and version control to test a focused fix, then verify the solution across relevant templates, devices, and content states.
I have built reusable blocks with structured fields, editor previews, and frontend rendering designed to give content teams flexibility without sacrificing design consistency. I focus on clear attributes or ACF field groups, accessible markup, responsive styling, and documentation for editors.
I start with semantic HTML, logical heading order, keyboard-friendly interactions, color contrast, meaningful form labels, and appropriate ARIA only where needed. For performance, I optimize images and assets, minimize unnecessary scripts, use efficient CSS and JavaScript, and test with browser audits and real-device checks.
I would clarify goals early through concise written questions, annotated mockups, and short working sessions when needed. I would share implementation tradeoffs, provide progress updates, and use prototypes or staging links to gain feedback before assumptions become expensive to revise.
About this role.
Brafton is one of the world’s leading content marketing firms, with offices in Boston, London, Toronto and Sydney. We aspire to continually raise the bar on what people consider “marketing content.” We create result-focused strategies and content to drive SEO, social engagement and leads for our clients. Our teams continuously build expertise across new media formats, including video, blogs, infographics and web design.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer who loves building clean, performant interfaces and knows their way around a CMS well enough to make the backend work for the frontend, not against it. You’ll spend most of your time in HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript — building custom Gutenberg blocks, theming, and pixel-perfect implementations from design mockups — while staying comfortable enough in PHP and WordPress/Drupal internals to troubleshoot, extend, and integrate when needed.
You’ll work directly with our design and consulting teams to turn mockups into fast, accessible, well-crafted websites for clients across a range of industries.
What You’ll Do
Build custom WordPress themes, Gutenberg blocks (ACF or React-based), and plugins from provided designs
Translate mockups into responsive, accessible frontend code using HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript
Work within Drupal for client sites that require it — theming, content types, and module-level troubleshooting
Diagnose and fix frontend and backend issues across a variety of CMS platforms
Collaborate directly with designers, consultants, and occasionally clients to solve problems and refine implementations
Use AI tools like Claude Code to plan out and execute aspects of a large project.
What You Bring
Must-haves
5+ years of professional frontend development — strong HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript fundamentals
3+ years building and customizing WordPress sites, including Gutenberg block development (ACF or React-based blocks)
Solid working knowledge of PHP (7.x/8.x) — enough to read, debug, and extend WordPress/Drupal codebases confidently
Practical Drupal experience — theming, content architecture, or module-level work
Familiarity with WordPress hooks/filters and general LAMP-stack conventions (MySQL, Git)
Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating in a remote, client-facing environment
Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude Code.
Nice-to-haves
Experience with React or Angular
Laravel or Symfony
Docker and Linux environment familiarity
AWS or other cloud platform exposure
Why Brafton
100% remote, full-time role with a US-based team lead and a genuinely collaborative, cross-office culture spanning five countries.
