The role, at a glance.
Fieldguide is seeking a senior full-stack engineer for its Financial Audit team to build agent-driven workflows for audit practitioners. The role combines daily hands-on coding with ownership of complex product workstreams tied to major customer implementations and strategic product bets. The engineer will partner closely with product, design, and financial-audit subject-matter experts while helping define technical direction for AI-native systems. Strong experience with ambiguous startup environments, technical leadership, and AI-assisted development is central, with TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, and PostgreSQL listed as relevant technologies.

Sample interview questions
I would first map the workflow into high-confidence automatable steps and judgment-heavy decision points. The system would make its evidence, reasoning, source data, and confidence visible, then require explicit auditor review or approval for material conclusions. I would also implement audit logs, versioned outputs, escalation paths for low-confidence cases, and metrics that measure both automation value and reviewer corrections.
I would begin by aligning stakeholders on the customer outcome, constraints, risks, and measurable success criteria. Next, I would turn uncertainty into a staged technical plan, identify the highest-risk assumptions for early validation, and communicate tradeoffs frequently. I would deliver useful increments quickly while maintaining clear ownership of dependencies, quality, and follow-through.
I would start with the user workflow, data model, performance requirements, and operational risks rather than selecting patterns by default. I would define clear GraphQL boundaries, use TypeScript to strengthen contracts across the stack, design PostgreSQL schemas and indexes around access patterns, and establish observability for critical flows. I would favor simple, maintainable designs that can evolve as the product and domain understanding mature.
I use AI tools to accelerate exploration, boilerplate creation, test generation, and targeted refactoring, but I retain responsibility for architecture and verification. I review generated code carefully, validate behavior with automated tests and local execution, and avoid exposing sensitive data or credentials in prompts. For consequential systems, I treat AI-generated output as an untrusted draft subject to the same security, correctness, and review standards as any other contribution.
I would describe a project where I partnered closely with domain experts, converted terminology and policies into concrete workflow models, and validated my understanding through short feedback cycles. I would emphasize documenting assumptions, identifying edge cases early, and shipping incremental functionality that users could evaluate. The result would demonstrate both rapid learning and the ability to turn specialized knowledge into dependable product behavior.

About the Role
We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Financial Audit team at Fieldguide. Financial Audit is one of our most important strategic bets right now, and this is a high-impact role on a team that’s building something genuinely new. We’re not bolting AI onto traditional workflows; we’re rethinking financial audit as agentic-first from the ground up. You’ll own major workstreams tied to our largest customer onboardings and most ambitious product bets, working alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and financial audit subject matter experts who are all deeply embedded in the problem.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll write code every day, and increasingly write code with AI. We’re an AI-native team using tools like Claude Code extensively, and we expect this person to push that boundary further.
What You’ll Do
Design and build agent-driven experiences for financial audit workflows, deciding where autonomy makes sense and where the auditor stays in the loop
Own complex, end-to-end workstreams tied to onboarding our largest customers
Ship code from day one and ramp quickly into full ownership of significant product areas
Collaborate daily with product managers, designers, and financial audit SMEs to work through hard domain problems
Help shape technical direction and contribute to how the team thinks about agentic systems, AI tooling, and engineering best practices
Mentor other engineers and contribute to our interview process as the team scales
Who You Are
A strong full-stack engineer who writes code every day and wants to keep doing that
Comfortable in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where you figure things out as you go
High degree of ownership; you don’t wait to be told what to do
Curious about AI and agentic systems, and already using AI coding tools in your workflow
Able to pick up complex domain concepts quickly. You don’t need to know financial auditing, but you’re the kind of person who can internalize it fast
Collaborative by nature, you want to be in the room with product, design, and domain experts working through hard problems together
Experienced leading projects and driving technical decisions with a bias toward action
Bonus Points
Experience in financial services, audit, accounting, or compliance
Prior work building AI or agent-driven product experiences
Familiarity with our stack: TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL
Background working at high-growth startups where you wore a lot of hats
Experience with document processing or infrastructure work
