Sample interview questions
Describe an organization-wide architecture initiative you led and how you achieved adoption across teams.

I would explain the initial business and technical constraints, define a clear target architecture and migration path, and establish lightweight governance through design reviews, reference implementations, and measurable success criteria. I would emphasize partnering with team leads early, addressing local trade-offs, and tracking adoption, reliability, and delivery outcomes.

How do you balance urgent product delivery with investments in reliability, observability, and long-term scalability?

I frame non-functional work in terms of customer impact, operational risk, and future delivery speed. I prioritize the highest-risk gaps, incorporate resilience requirements into product planning, and use incremental milestones so foundational improvements deliver value without blocking critical launches.

What is your approach to creating architectural clarity when ownership spans multiple teams?

I first map system boundaries, decision makers, dependencies, and unresolved assumptions. I then facilitate a decision process with documented options and trade-offs, assign accountable owners, and communicate the resulting direction broadly so teams can execute independently with aligned constraints.

How have you improved developer experience across an engineering organization?

I use qualitative feedback and delivery data to identify recurring friction, such as slow builds, inconsistent service templates, weak local tooling, or unclear deployment practices. I then create paved-road tooling, reusable libraries, and self-service documentation, measuring improvements through lead time, deployment reliability, and developer adoption.

How would you design a customer-facing healthcare platform for growth while protecting reliability and maintainability?

I would establish clear domain boundaries, resilient service interfaces, strong observability, and secure automated delivery practices. I would also design for safe migrations, explicit data ownership, failure isolation, and progressive rollout mechanisms, while continuously validating technical decisions against patient and customer experience outcomes.
