Sample interview questions
How would you investigate an alert suggesting credential dumping on a Windows endpoint?

I would validate the alert context, identify the affected host and user, review process lineage and command-line activity, and examine relevant EDR telemetry and Windows logs. I would look for tools, memory-access behavior, suspicious privilege escalation, lateral movement, and related authentication events, then scope other potentially affected systems and recommend containment and credential-reset actions.

Describe how you distinguish a true positive from a benign but unusual security alert.

I correlate the alert with asset criticality, user context, process ancestry, command lines, historical behavior, network connections, and available threat intelligence. I document the evidence supporting the decision and, if the activity is benign but repeatedly noisy, recommend a narrowly scoped detection-tuning improvement rather than broadly suppressing the signal.

What information would you seek when investigating a potentially compromised Microsoft 365 tenant?

I would review sign-in logs, conditional-access results, MFA changes, mailbox forwarding rules, OAuth application grants, inbox rules, privileged role changes, and unusual file or email activity. I would identify the initial access path, determine the scope of affected accounts and data, revoke malicious sessions or tokens, reset credentials where appropriate, and provide prioritized remediation guidance.

How do you use MITRE ATT&CK during an intrusion investigation?

I use ATT&CK to map observed behavior to tactics and techniques, identify likely follow-on activity, and guide focused hunting. For example, evidence of credential access prompts checks for lateral movement, persistence, privilege escalation, and exfiltration techniques that commonly follow in the same intrusion path.

How would you use AI tools responsibly in daily SOC work?

I would use AI to summarize large volumes of evidence, draft investigation notes, generate research leads, or assist with pattern analysis, while treating its output as untrusted until validated. Decisions affecting containment, customer communication, or remediation would always be verified against primary telemetry, logs, and established procedures.

What We Do:

Cybercrime is growing, and more businesses are getting hit by threats that used to target only the biggest organizations. That pushes defenders like us to operate at the highest level, and it deepens our need for good people who want to make a meaningful impact.
