Sample interview questions
How would you decide which institutional customer segment and market-data use case Dune should address first?

I would combine market attractiveness, customer urgency, willingness to pay, Dune’s differentiated data assets, implementation complexity, and repeatability. I would validate the highest-potential hypotheses through structured customer conversations and design-partner commitments, then select a focused use case with measurable adoption and revenue outcomes.

How do you translate institutional requirements for data quality into product requirements for engineering and data teams?

I define explicit service expectations such as coverage, freshness, accuracy, consistency, lineage, availability, and error-handling procedures. I turn these into prioritized requirements, measurable service-level objectives, acceptance criteria, and monitoring so teams can make trade-offs transparently.

Describe how you would balance a strategic enterprise customer request against the need to build scalable products.

I would identify the underlying job to be done and separate broadly reusable capabilities from customer-specific customization. I would prioritize work that creates a durable platform advantage, use tightly bounded exceptions where commercially justified, and communicate the rationale and sequencing clearly to the customer and internal teams.

What metrics would you use to evaluate the success of an institutional data product?

I would track customer activation, time to first value, recurring usage, retention, expansion, integration completion, data-quality incidents, reliability, and commercial metrics such as conversion and net revenue retention. The metric set would be tied to the customer outcome the product is intended to improve, not only feature delivery.

How would you lead product decisions when customer feedback is incomplete or conflicting?

I would make the assumptions explicit, assess evidence quality, and use product principles and strategic goals to choose a direction. I would then define a fast validation path, monitor leading indicators, and revise the decision when new evidence materially changes the expected outcome.

About the role

Dune’s mission is to make onchain finance observable. Since 2018, we have made blockchain data accessible and useful. Our next opportunity is to build products that financial institutions depend on to commit capital, assess risk, and enter new onchain markets.

As these institutions expand their activity on blockchains, they will need reliable, trustworthy and timely data to power decision making across more markets than ever before. They will need to compare opportunities, monitor changes, and integrate data into their existing systems. For Dune these recurring needs will become a substantial and core part of our business.

We are looking for a Head of Product to help transition Dune into this new era. We will build on top of Dune’s existing data foundation, which already powers thousands of companies. You will decide which customers and use cases to serve first, which problems matter most, and which needs can become scalable products for institutional usage.

You will identify valuable customer problems and guide the company to deliver a reliable product and grow its usage.

What we are looking for

You care about markets and have a background in either traditional or onchain markets. You navigate fluently financial jargon and know how market participants use and leverage data.

You can set a clear direction, make difficult choices, and work hard through the details required to deliver. The job’s not finished with a PRD, a hire or a ticket. The job’s finished when the product is creating value in the hands of our customers, being recursively improved by tight knit relationships.

You will work closely with Dune’s engineering, data, and commercial teams while being an integral part of the leadership team. You will report to the president. Your responsibility extends from understanding a customer’s problem to delivering a product that solves it, while navigating the requirements from a large customer base.

You should be equally comfortable discussing an institution’s data requirements and deciding what the team must deliver this week.

In this role you will

  • Define the product strategy for market data and institutional customers. Decide which customers, problems, and products deserve our attention.

  • Own the product experience from data creation to delivery. Set clear requirements for coverage, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.

  • Understand how financial institutions consume data. Turn their research, investment, trading, and operational needs into clear product priorities.

  • Work with engineering and data teams to deliver reliable datasets, data feeds, and integrations that fit customer systems.

  • Make explicit decisions about scope, quality, and delivery dates. Resolve dependencies and keep important work moving.

  • Partner with Product Marketing, Sales and other teams on customer evaluations, pricing, and adoption. Convert repeated customer needs into products we can serve at scale.

  • Define how we measure success of our products. Use the results to decide what to improve or stop.

  • Define and improve on our operational practices.

  • Leverage AI to improve our customer research, operations and feedback loops.

  • Lead and develop a product team that takes responsibility for customer results.

  • Say no and prioritize.

You might be a great fit if

  • You’re excited to spend real time with customers: on calls, in their offices, learning from them.

  • You have delivered technically complex data products that customers (ideally institutional) depend on.

  • You understand market data and how financial institutions evaluate, purchase, integrate, and use it.

  • You have good knowledge of onchain markets, tokenized equities and RWAs

  • You can connect customer needs with technical requirements and a sound business case.

  • You have strong product judgment. You can make decisions with incomplete information and change them when the evidence changes.

  • You stay close to the work. You investigate problems, challenge assumptions, and help teams resolve difficult details.

  • You are known to be an excellent communicator.

  • You have startup experience, ideally a former founder or operator.

Perks & Benefits

  • A competitive salary and equity package 🚀. Both salary and equity is top 25% of companies in the space

  • Our employee equity scheme has world-class employee-friendly terms with a heavily discounted strike price (~90%) and a 10-year exercise window

  • Say goodbye to meeting overload! We believe in a healthy mix of async and sync work, so you can focus on what truly matters—no more wasted time on endless meetings!

  • Good health is important, so we offer private medical insurance, dental & vision as standard 🩺

  • We believe in paid parental leave 👶 to help you celebrate this important milestone, transition to your new life, and bond with your new baby. We offer 16 weeks to primary and 6 weeks to secondary caregivers, fully paid. Plus a 2-week part-time phased return at full pay to help you get used to your new (and slightly more complex!) schedule

  • Quarterly offsites in various exciting locations as a company or team to connect, work together and have fun (so far in Tuscany 🇮🇹 Berlin 🇩🇪 Austria 🇦🇹 and Athens 🇬🇷).

  • On top of this 👆each person gets a yearly travel allowance to connect and co-work with someone or a team of people for a few days.

  • An allowance for your at-home setup, to ensure you are happy, comfortable and productive. If you prefer a local co-working space, we’ll pay for your desk.

  • An annual allowance for your Learning and Development needs.

  • Work with some of the best people you’ll ever get to meet!

  • And of course, you get some awesome Dune swag! ✌️😎
