Sample interview questions
How would you establish a reliable source of truth for a portfolio with multiple initiative owners?

I would define required portfolio fields, ownership, update cadence, and data-quality checks in the work-management platform. I would standardize milestone, health, risk, dependency, and decision definitions, then reconcile exceptions with owners before producing leadership reporting.

Describe how you would communicate a portfolio variance to an executive audience.

I would lead with the decision or action needed, quantify the variance against plan, explain its principal driver, and summarize downstream impact. I would present practical options, recommended next steps, accountable owners, and deadlines while keeping supporting detail available in an appendix.

How do you identify and manage dependencies across concurrent initiatives?

I would maintain a dependency register that records the upstream owner, downstream initiative, required date, status, impact, and escalation threshold. Regular reviews with initiative owners would surface changes early, allowing risks to be escalated before key milestones are affected.

What approaches would you use to automate PMO reporting?

I would first map the reporting workflow and identify repetitive manual data consolidation or formatting steps. I would use platform dashboards, spreadsheet queries, BI tools, or approved automation tools to refresh core metrics, while retaining validation checks and clear documentation for data sources.

How have you used AI tools responsibly in project or business operations work?

I use AI to accelerate first drafts of status summaries, meeting notes, documentation structures, and data-analysis approaches, then validate all outputs against source data and organizational standards. I avoid entering sensitive information into unapproved tools and apply judgment before sharing results with stakeholders.
