The role, at a glance.
This senior Platform Engineer role owns infrastructure modernization and platform enablement for multiple B2B SaaS brands. The engineer will establish repeatable standards for infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, backups, reliability, and cloud-cost optimization. The position requires hands-on cloud and Terraform expertise alongside the ability to advise CTOs and engineering leaders on architectural trade-offs. It also involves incident-response practices, application-level troubleshooting, and participation in a lightweight on-call rotation. Success depends on autonomous delivery, clear stakeholder communication, and daily practical use of AI coding tools for infrastructure work.

Sample interview questions
I would begin with a short discovery phase covering cloud architecture, deployment flow, access controls, observability, backup and recovery, reliability risks, and cloud spend. I would baseline the current state with measurable indicators, prioritize the highest-risk and highest-leverage improvements, and agree on a staged roadmap with the brand's technical leadership. I would document trade-offs, owners, success measures, and dependencies so progress remains transparent.
I would define common delivery principles first: reproducible builds, automated tests, security checks, artifact traceability, environment promotion, rollback capability, and observable deployments. Then I would provide reusable templates and shared components that can be adapted to each stack rather than forcing identical pipelines everywhere. Adoption should be incremental, supported by documentation, pairing, and metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time, and change-failure rate.
Effective observability connects customer-facing service objectives to actionable telemetry. I would establish structured logs, key infrastructure and application metrics, distributed traces where useful, meaningful alerts, and SLO-aligned dashboards for availability, latency, errors, and saturation. Alerts should identify genuine user impact and include enough context for responders to diagnose issues quickly.
I would first establish a cost baseline by service, environment, workload, and owner, then identify waste, idle capacity, overprovisioning, inefficient storage, and architectural hotspots. Each change would be evaluated against performance and reliability requirements, tested safely, and measured after implementation. I would favor sustainable controls such as tagging, budgets, rightsizing reviews, autoscaling, lifecycle policies, and cost-aware architectural standards.
I use AI tools to accelerate drafting Terraform, scripts, runbooks, test cases, and diagnostic hypotheses, while retaining engineering accountability for validation. Generated changes should be reviewed, tested in appropriate environments, security-checked, and aligned with existing standards before deployment. I also coach teams to avoid placing secrets or sensitive production data into tools and to treat AI output as an assistive starting point rather than authoritative advice.

Profile Overview
Our Platform Engineering team runs central infrastructure services and partners with brands to modernize their stacks. The mission: provide a “paved road” of opinionated best practices (observability, backups, CI/CD, infra as code) that brands can adopt quickly, and support hands-on migrations when needed.
You’ll own outcomes for a set of brands: assess where they are, recommend what “good” looks like, and implement the plan. The role blends architecture, enablement, and practical engineering. It’s senior and autonomous: you’ll advise and sometimes convince stakeholders, then deliver.
Your immediate impact in the first 3-6 months will be:
- Complete central onboarding by pairing with a team member for ~2 weeks to learn our patterns and tooling, then start managing the brands assigned to you.
- Lead the onboarding of at least one brand to our “paved road” standards (GitHub org, CI/CD, monitoring/observability, IaC), with positive feedback from brand leadership and our team.
- Deliver one or more migrations/refactors (e.g., CI/CD, infra modernization, cost/availability improvements) and document decisions so others can build on them.
Your responsibilities
- Lead infrastructure projects for assigned brands: migrations, performance & reliability improvements, incident response practices, containerization, and cloud cost optimizations.
- Establish/upgrade CI/CD, infra as code, monitoring, alerting, and SLO-aligned dashboards; baseline and improve reliability with data.
- Advise brand CTOs/engineering leads on trade-offs and architecture; justify decisions with clear reasoning and measurable outcomes.
- Contribute to and consume central services (e.g., observability, backups) so brands don’t reinvent the wheel.
- Collaborate with developers as part of the product team during engagements; troubleshoot across app and infra boundaries.
- Bring AI into the paved road itself: use tools like Claude Code or Codex daily to speed up IaC, scripting, and incident diagnosis, and help brand teams pick up the same habits in their own workflows.
- Participate in an on-call rotation (lightweight today; scaling toward a fair, shared model).
What You bring to the table
- 5+ years of experience in Platform or Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles, operating at a senior level with strong ownership and autonomy.
- Deep expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (ideally Terraform).
- Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and best practices; able to assess, design, and modernize pipelines across diverse brand environments.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, ELK, Prometheus, or similar) and sound judgment on what “good” looks like.
- Hands-on, daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) in real infra work, not just curiosity about them; comfortable coaching brand teams on how to use them well.
- A background in software development or the ability to read and debug application code.
- Excellent communication and consulting skills; confident in advising and influencing technical stakeholders while adapting to different teams and tech stacks.
