Sample interview questions
I would validate the utility's available capacity, interconnection queue position, upgrade scope, cost allocation, and realistic energization timeline. I would model these factors against land savings, development schedule, redundancy needs, and the cost of alternative power solutions before presenting a risk-adjusted recommendation.
I would include near- and long-term power capacity, power price and reliability, interconnection timing, land and construction costs, fiber diversity, cooling and water feasibility, seismic and climate exposure, permitting complexity, tax incentives, expansion potential, and community or regulatory risk. Each metric should be weighted according to Vultr's deployment strategy and technical requirements.
I would establish a clear diligence workplan, identify decision-makers early, document assumptions and commitments, and maintain regular status reviews. I would also seek written confirmation of capacity, timelines, permitting pathways, and incentives so executive decisions are based on verifiable information rather than preliminary assurances.
I use a concise decision memo that compares shortlisted sites, clearly identifies the recommended option, quantifies key costs and timelines, and highlights material risks and mitigations. Supporting financial models and technical diligence are available in appendices, while the executive presentation focuses on the decision, tradeoffs, and required approvals.
Common risks include delayed power interconnection, incomplete land control, permitting opposition, inadequate fiber diversity, environmental constraints, and underestimated construction costs. I mitigate them through early utility diligence, phased land agreements, permitting counsel, redundant connectivity analysis, environmental reviews, contingency budgets, and maintaining a qualified pipeline of alternative sites.
