AI Summary

The role, at a glance.

TRM Labs is seeking an early-career investigator to triage crypto-related complaints and route validated cases into asset-recovery, takedown, legal-process, or victim-notification workflows. The role requires reviewing AI-generated investigative outputs, identifying consequential errors, enriching case data through commercial sources, and maintaining reliable global shift handoffs. It is a remote, full-time role supporting EMEA hours or Singapore, with a formal on-call rotation for urgent incidents. Success depends on sound investigative judgment, AI fluency, rapid learning in blockchain analysis, and clear communication in a high-velocity operational environment.

Sample interview questions
How would you validate an AI-generated disposition before sending a complaint to an asset-recovery or takedown workflow?

I would review the source complaint, corroborate key identifiers across trusted data sources, test whether the AI's reasoning matches the evidence, and check for false positives or incorrectly merged entities. I would document confidence, rationale, and unresolved risks before routing or escalating the case.

Describe how you would manage a surge of incoming complaints while preserving investigative quality.

I would apply a risk-based triage framework that prioritizes active harm, recoverable assets, legal deadlines, and high-confidence indicators. I would use standardized checklists and AI-assisted summarization for repeatable steps, while reserving deeper manual review for ambiguous or high-impact cases.

What would you do if you identified a recurring error pattern in an AI investigation workflow?

I would capture representative examples, quantify the operational impact, identify the conditions that trigger the error, and promptly notify the appropriate product or operations stakeholders. I would also introduce an interim review control or routing rule to prevent the pattern from affecting downstream decisions.

How would you ensure an effective handoff to a teammate in another time zone?

I would leave a concise, structured record of the case status, evidence reviewed, actions taken, outstanding questions, priority level, and required next step. For urgent matters, I would directly alert the receiving teammate and confirm ownership rather than relying only on written notes.

How do you approach learning a new crypto-enabled crime pattern when information is incomplete?

I begin by defining the observable indicators, mapping known wallets, entities, channels, and transaction behaviors, and separating verified facts from assumptions. I then use available intelligence sources and feedback from experienced investigators to test hypotheses, update the pattern, and document lessons for the wider team.

About this role.

Build a Safer World.

TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM’s platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.

As a Global Investigator on the triage team, you will be the first line of operational defense in a fast-moving crypto disruption pipeline. You will process inbound complaint data, validate outputs from our artificial-intelligence (AI) investigation platform, and route cases into the investigative pipelines that result in frozen scam proceeds and seized assets. You will hold the disposition pen: your call is what turns a complaint into a freeze, a takedown, a recovery handoff, a legal-process draft, a victim notification, or a close.

The impact you will have:

  • Validate and route hundreds of complaint dispositions per week, feeding a live asset-recovery pipeline.

  • Catch the AI errors that matter, such as false positives, merged syndicates, and misclassified scam patterns, before they propagate downstream.

  • Enrich complaint selectors using a stack of more than forty commercial data-source integrations.

  • Own clean shift handoffs so the around-the-clock operation never drops a lead, providing EMEA-hours coverage that keeps the queue moving while colleagues in other regions are offline.

What we’re looking for:

  • Investigative or analytical experience in the private or public sector. One to three years is fine: we want hungry people who want to grow into deep crypto expertise.

  • Strong AI fluency, meaning comfort using AI tools as a daily co-pilot, plus the judgment to know when they are wrong.

  • Excitement to deepen blockchain analysis skills.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, fluid environment where the project’s scope and emphasis may shift quarter to quarter.

  • Strong written and verbal communication.

About the Team:

  • The team is built around a mix of seasoned investigators and rising talent. Triage investigators sit alongside experienced crypto tracers and intelligence-trained individual contributors, and the seat is designed to accelerate your development.

Team Operating Rhythms:

  • Daily schedule: standard business hours in your local time zone.

  • Collaboration: coordinate with global teammates for handoffs on time-sensitive items, giving the wider operation near follow-the-sun coverage.

On-Call Responsibilities:

  • Formal on-call rotation for high-priority events, such as hacks, law-enforcement support, and other time-sensitive matters.

  • Weekly rotation, with occasional weekend coverage as needed.

Learn about TRM Speed in this position:

  • React quickly to incoming complaint surges and live takedown events.

  • Continuously learn new patterns in crypto-enabled crime.
