The role, at a glance.
ClickUp is seeking a senior cloud-platform engineer to build and operate scalable, secure AWS infrastructure for a high-growth AI workspace. The role centers on Amazon EKS, multi-account AWS networking, Terraform-based infrastructure as code, and reliability engineering across multi-region systems. The engineer will participate in on-call operations, incident response, postmortems, security controls, compliance readiness, and cost-efficiency improvements. Strong production Kubernetes troubleshooting, programming ability in Go, Python, or TypeScript, and cross-functional communication are essential. The team expects daily, practical use of AI tools to improve engineering, operations, and investigations.

Sample interview questions
I have operated production Kubernetes clusters by standardizing cluster provisioning, node lifecycle management, networking, observability, and deployment controls. I use capacity planning, autoscaling, clear runbooks, and post-incident improvements to maintain reliable service as workloads grow.
I start by mapping the complete traffic path, including DNS, routing tables, security groups, network ACLs, load balancers, VPC endpoints, and application behavior. I validate each layer with logs and metrics, isolate the failing boundary, implement the smallest safe fix, and document preventative controls or automated checks.
I use reusable versioned modules, remote state with controlled access, environment-specific composition, code review, policy checks, and CI plans before applies. I also establish guardrails for sensitive resources and design account boundaries so teams can move independently without weakening security.
I first establish impact, stabilize the service, and communicate clearly to stakeholders with an incident lead and defined roles. After recovery, I lead a blameless review focused on contributing conditions, detection gaps, durable remediation, ownership, and verification of the preventive work.
I use AI to accelerate tasks such as drafting Terraform patterns, summarizing logs, generating test cases, exploring incident hypotheses, and improving runbook documentation. I validate all outputs against production constraints, security requirements, source documentation, and peer review before making changes.
About this role.
At ClickUp, we’re building the future of work: the first truly converged AI workspace unifying tasks, docs, chat, calendar, and enterprise search, all supercharged by context-driven AI. We are an AI-native company. Every team member is expected to leverage AI daily, and we evaluate AI fluency as part of our hiring process. Join us and help redefine what’s possible. 🚀
The role
ClickUp’s Cloud Platform team builds scalable, secure, and cost-efficient AWS infrastructure, with a heavy focus on Amazon EKS, that stays ahead of product and enterprise growth. Our goal: product velocity is never blocked by platform constraints. As a Senior Software Engineer, you leverage AI to design, build, and operate the compute, networking, and infrastructure-as-code foundation that powers ClickUp for millions of users.
What you’ll do
Build and scale AWS infrastructure and reusable platform abstractions that simplify development, with a strong focus on Amazon EKS, networking, and self-hosted services.
Identify improvement opportunities and emerging risks, and propose novel solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency before constraints become blockers.
Automate shard buildouts and implement Terraform guardrails and hardened ingress that reduce incidents.
Scale systems for multi-shard, multi-region growth while meeting compliance attestations (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc), disaster recovery, and enterprise security requirements.
Partner with SRE, Security, product, AI, and enterprise teams to bridge infrastructure and product engineering.
Own the reliability of Cloud Platform itself: on-call, incident response, postmortems, runbooks, and prevention.
Use AI tooling daily to accelerate development, testing, IaC, operations, and investigations, and help the team raise its AI leverage.
What we’re looking for
6+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems with a focus on infrastructure and cloud, especially compute foundations.
Deep, hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting Kubernetes in production, including control-plane, node, and networking issues, ideally Amazon EKS at fleet scale.
Strong AWS experience: EKS, EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, VPC networking, IAM, S3, KMS. Bedrock is a plus.
Multi-account AWS (20+ accounts) experience, including Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, VPC routing, DNS, and load balancing.
Infrastructure-as-code at scale with Terraform (CDK experience is a plus).
Fluent coding in at least one language (Go, Python, or TypeScript/Node.js preferred).
Experience with hybrid monolith/microservices architectures.
Experience operating data stores at scale, such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, and Redis/Valkey.
Track record of improving infrastructure reliability and efficiency and implementing security guardrails.
Strong production debugging across application and infrastructure boundaries, clear written communication, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
Daily AI user with concrete examples of how AI supercharged your engineering workflow.
