Sample interview questions
How would you diagnose and improve underperformance in a Central US market?

I would first establish a market-level scorecard covering demand, therapist supply, visit completion, referral conversion, utilization, contribution margin, quality, and partner satisfaction. I would identify the primary constraint, validate it with local stakeholders and data trends, prioritize a small number of interventions, assign clear owners, and review results through a regular operating cadence.

Describe how you lead effectively when key teams do not report directly to you.

I align partners around shared outcomes, transparent metrics, and clear decision rights rather than relying on hierarchy. I build trust by understanding each function’s constraints, make tradeoffs explicit, remove barriers quickly, and use consistent business reviews to maintain accountability for regional commitments.

How do you balance regional revenue growth with profitability and therapist sustainability?

I evaluate growth initiatives through their contribution margin, capacity implications, quality impact, and expected return over time. I avoid pursuing volume that creates unsustainable therapist workloads or weak service quality, instead focusing on market density, retention, utilization, and high-value referral channels.

What approach would you take to regional forecasting and planning?

I would combine historical performance, market demand signals, referral pipeline, therapist capacity, productivity assumptions, and known investments into a rolling forecast. I would build scenarios for upside and downside conditions, identify leading indicators, and refresh assumptions monthly so corrective actions can be taken early.

How would you handle a significant escalation from a health-system partner?

I would promptly understand the partner’s concerns, quantify the operational and relationship impact, and convene the appropriate internal leaders to create a response plan. I would communicate ownership, timelines, and progress transparently to the partner, address root causes rather than only the immediate issue, and use the outcome to strengthen future operating processes.
