Sample interview questions
How would you develop a frontend architecture strategy across multiple product teams using different frameworks or legacy patterns?

I would first map the existing application boundaries, dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and team pain points. I would define a target architecture with clear principles, shared platform capabilities, migration paths, and measurable outcomes, then prioritize incremental adoption rather than a disruptive rewrite. Governance should include lightweight architecture reviews, reusable standards, and ownership models that let teams move quickly while converging on the target state.

Describe your approach to improving performance in a large Angular or React application.

I begin with user-focused metrics such as Core Web Vitals, interaction latency, error rates, and bundle size, then use profiling to identify the highest-impact bottlenecks. Common improvements include code splitting, route-level lazy loading, render optimization, efficient state selectors, caching, virtualization, and reducing unnecessary network or JavaScript work. I validate changes through production monitoring and performance budgets so improvements persist over time.

How do you decide when a shared frontend component or platform abstraction is justified?

I look for repeated use cases with stable common behavior, meaningful maintenance cost, and enough consumers to justify coordinated ownership. A shared abstraction should have a narrow, well-documented contract and remain flexible enough for legitimate product variation. I avoid premature generalization by proving the pattern with a small number of real implementations before expanding it.

How would you balance urgent product delivery against long-term frontend maintainability?

I frame the decision in terms of risk, customer impact, reversibility, and future delivery cost. For time-sensitive work, I identify the smallest safe solution and explicitly document technical debt, its owner, and a remediation trigger. I also reserve capacity for high-leverage platform investments that remove recurring friction and improve the speed of future product work.

What testing strategy would you establish for a large-scale frontend feature involving several teams?

I would define a layered strategy: unit tests for business logic and state transitions, component tests for behavior and accessibility, integration tests for critical client-server flows, and a focused set of end-to-end tests for core user journeys. The strategy should include reliable test data, ownership expectations, CI quality gates, observability for production failures, and clear criteria for when regression coverage is required. I would emphasize fast, deterministic tests to keep developer feedback loops practical.
