Sample interview questions
How do you prepare for and conduct an independent site monitoring visit?

I review the monitoring plan, prior visit reports, outstanding action items, enrollment and safety data, and relevant trial-system records before the visit. During the visit, I verify source data and essential documents, assess protocol and GCP compliance, train site staff where needed, and document clear follow-up actions in a timely monitoring report.

Describe how you would handle a recurring protocol deviation at an investigative site.

I would first confirm the facts through source documentation and discuss the root cause with the investigator and site staff. I would document the deviation according to the protocol and sponsor procedures, ensure required reporting occurs, implement corrective and preventive actions, and monitor their effectiveness at subsequent contacts or visits.

What steps do you take to ensure an Investigator Site File is inspection-ready?

I routinely reconcile the ISF against the essential-document requirements, check version control, signatures, dates, training records, delegation logs, and regulatory approvals. I promptly request missing or corrected documents, track completion, and ensure the file aligns with the eTMF and current study status.

How do you balance several sites with competing milestones and urgent data queries?

I prioritize based on patient safety, regulatory risk, database timelines, enrollment needs, and visit windows. I maintain a structured tracker, communicate early with sites and project teams about risks, schedule focused follow-ups, and escalate blockers promptly when cross-functional support is needed.

How would you support a CRA I or CRA II during co-monitoring?

I would set clear objectives before the visit, observe their preparation and site interactions, and provide practical feedback grounded in the protocol, monitoring plan, and ICH-GCP. Afterwards, I would review their findings and documentation, identify development actions, and follow up to build their confidence and independence.
