Sample interview questions
How would you approach building a highly interactive ad format that must remain responsive on a high-traffic consumer site?

I would first define performance budgets and user interaction requirements, then design the component with progressive loading, efficient state management, and minimal rendering work. I would instrument key performance and engagement metrics, test across devices and browsers, and use controlled experiments to validate the format’s impact.

Describe how you would test a new React-based advertising experience.

I would use a layered strategy: unit tests for business logic and components, integration tests for user flows and API behavior, and end-to-end tests for critical advertiser and user experiences. I would also add visual or accessibility checks where appropriate and monitor production telemetry after release.

What makes a code review effective on a frontend team?

An effective review checks correctness, maintainability, performance, accessibility, test coverage, and alignment with established patterns. Feedback should be specific and constructive, explain the trade-off, and focus on the change rather than the author.

How would you use observability to diagnose a decline in ad interaction rates after a release?

I would compare the release timeline with interaction, error, latency, and rendering metrics segmented by platform, browser, and audience. I would inspect client-side errors and traces, validate experiment assignments, reproduce the issue where possible, and use the findings to roll back, mitigate, or ship a targeted fix.

How do you collaborate effectively with product and design partners when requirements are ambiguous?

I clarify the user problem, success metrics, constraints, and edge cases early, then propose feasible technical options with trade-offs. I use lightweight prototypes or written decisions to align stakeholders, communicate risks promptly, and iterate based on feedback and measured outcomes.
