Sample interview questions
How would you design a buyer-focused demo for an SRE leader evaluating Grafana Cloud?

I would begin with the leader's operational outcomes, such as reducing time to detect and resolve incidents, controlling telemetry costs, and improving service reliability. I would use a realistic incident narrative to demonstrate unified signals, investigation workflows, and the business impact, rather than presenting features in isolation. I would close with a concise differentiated-value summary and provide the sales team with repeatable talk tracks.

Describe how you translate a complex technical capability into an effective value narrative for non-practitioner buyers.

I first identify the audience's priorities, risks, and decision criteria, then connect the capability to measurable operational outcomes. I keep technical detail sufficient to establish credibility while structuring the story around the problem, the consequences of inaction, the approach, and the resulting value. I validate the narrative with practitioners and sales engineers before scaling it across channels.

How would you create consistent technical enablement for a distributed sales engineering organization?

I would establish a central, version-controlled demo and messaging framework with persona-specific narratives, technical proof points, competitive guidance, and short practice modules. I would gather feedback from SEs through enablement sessions and deal retrospectives, then continuously improve assets based on common objections and win/loss insights. Automation can keep demo environments and reusable content current as products evolve.

What experience do you have with observability, and how would you explain its importance to a platform-engineering leader?

I would explain observability as the ability to understand system behavior through correlated metrics, logs, traces, profiles, and events. For a platform leader, the value is a reliable, scalable foundation that helps teams detect issues sooner, reduce troubleshooting time, standardize operational practices, and give developers actionable context. The conversation should tie the technical architecture to reliability, engineering productivity, and cost outcomes.

How would you use AI or automation to scale technical marketing content without compromising accuracy?

I would automate repeatable work such as generating first drafts, adapting approved narratives for channels, maintaining demo setup scripts, and surfacing content updates. Subject-matter experts would review technical claims, and I would use approved source material, templates, and version controls to preserve consistency. Performance and field feedback would guide which assets to refine or retire.

We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.

You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.

The Opportunity:

Grafana Labs is looking for a technically fluent engineer who loves building powerful demos, explaining complex systems clearly, and helping SRE and platform engineering leaders understand the value of our open approach to observability.

As Grafana’s offering shifts from dashboards to industry-leading agentic observability, our Product Marketing team is responsible for closing the gap between what our products can do and how customers understand that value. That means building clear, consistent positioning, enabling sellers with trustworthy technical narratives, and creating content that helps Platform Engineering teams quickly grasp why Grafana Cloud is the right choice for them.

As a Technical Product Marketer you will play a critical part in that transformation. You’ll be the hands-on engineer who brings our technical story to life for buyers, not just practitioners. You’ll build core demos, run technical workshops and webinars, and act as the technical bridge between our Product and Sales orgs. Your work will help SRE and platform engineering leaders evaluate Grafana with confidence, equip sales engineers with better tools and talk tracks, and ensure our technical value shows up clearly and consistently across the entire customer journey.

This is a unique chance to shape how Grafana tells its story as we evolve our positioning in the AI era, strengthen seller enablement, and build a repeatable system for communicating product value.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Build strategic, buyer-focused demos, videos, workshops, and webinars

  • Create and maintain polished, narrative-driven demos that highlight Grafana’s value for SRE and platform engineering leaders.
  • Record high-quality technical demo videos and walkthroughs in partnership with our video and content teams.
  • Lead webinars, workshops, and technical sessions designed for evaluators.
  • Teach customers not just how Grafana works, but why our approach is differentiated and valuable.
  • Use AI tools to generate variations, summaries, and reusable assets that scale technical content across channels.

Enable Solutions (Sales) Engineers with clear, consistent technical storytelling

  • Serve as PMM’s technical liaison to the SE org, ensuring consistent messaging and demo guidance.
  • Produce technical enablement assets, value-driven talk tracks, competitive narratives, and demo best practices.
  • Help SEs and sellers communicate Grafana’s story with clarity, confidence, and differentiation.

Collaborate with PMMs to drive technical buyer engagement across high-impact channels

  • Partner with PMMs to identify the most important buyer personas, problems, and technical messages, and help shape the content strategy needed to reach them.
  • Extend technical narratives into impactful buyer-facing channels including analyst briefings (Gartner, Forrester), industry forums, podcasts, conferences, and online technical communities.
  • Bring a technical perspective to PMM planning—helping ensure our content, campaigns, and enablement reflect the real challenges and priorities of SREs and engineering leaders.

Use automation & AI to scale technical content

  • Partner with software engineers to streamline demo setup, content workflows, and asset updates through workflows, agents, scripts, and AI-driven tools.
  • Use automation to make technical content more repeatable, discoverable, and scalable across teams.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • 5+ years in a technical role (solutions engineering, SRE, DevOps, backend engineering, technical PMM, or similar).
  • Interest and ability to travel to training and customer events 10-12 weeks per year.
  • Strong understanding of observability concepts and the needs of SRE/platform teams.
  • Ability to translate deep technical concepts into clear, value-focused stories.
  • Experience presenting technical content through demos, workshops, or webinars.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a crisp, structured, persuasive style.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration; comfort working with PMM, Product, SEs, DevRel, and Field Engineering.
  • High ownership mindset with the ability to drive projects from concept to completion.
  • Comfort with light scripting or workflow automation.

Bonus Points For:

  • Hands-on experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, or similar observability tools, or a background in Observability or Platform Engineering.
  • Prior experience in Sales Engineering, DevRel, or technical product marketing.
  • Familiarity with demo environment automation or infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Exceptional live presentation or workshop facilitation skills.

Compensation & Rewards:

In the UK, the base compensation range for this role is GBP 103,958- GBP 124,750. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset as assessed throughout the interview process. All of our roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), giving every team member ownership in Grafana Labs’ success. We believe in shared outcomes—RSUs help us stay aligned and invested as we scale globally.
