Sample interview questions
How would you design a Java service to handle high volumes of wallet transaction requests reliably?

I would start by defining idempotency and transaction-state requirements, then use stateless service instances behind load balancing, durable message queues for asynchronous work, and carefully scoped database transactions. I would add observability, retry policies with backoff, dead-letter handling, rate limits, and load testing to validate behavior under peak demand.

What JVM issues have you encountered in high-throughput services, and how did you address them?

I have investigated excessive garbage collection, memory leaks, thread contention, and inefficient allocation patterns using metrics, heap dumps, thread dumps, and profiling tools. Typical improvements include tuning heap and GC settings, removing unnecessary object creation, bounding queues, and correcting synchronization bottlenecks.

How do you approach MySQL performance tuning for a transaction-heavy application?

I first inspect slow-query logs, execution plans, lock behavior, and index coverage. I then optimize query shape and indexes, avoid large unbounded scans, choose appropriate transaction isolation, and consider partitioning, replicas, or caching only after verifying the actual bottleneck.

How would you make a message-driven workflow safe against duplicate delivery?

I would assume at-least-once delivery and make consumers idempotent using a durable event or operation identifier. The consumer should atomically record processed state with the business update where possible, while retries, ordering requirements, and poison-message handling are explicitly designed and monitored.

What engineering risks are especially important when integrating blockchain functionality into a wallet product?

Key risks include key and signing security, chain reorganizations, nonce management, incorrect transaction-state assumptions, RPC-provider failures, smart-contract interactions, and asset accounting accuracy. I would isolate sensitive operations, validate all external inputs, use confirmation-aware state models, and build comprehensive monitoring and reconciliation processes.
