Sample interview questions
I would first validate the experiment setup, including cohort allocation, sample size, exposure dates, and tracking quality. I would calculate conversion rates for each group, estimate the uplift, and apply an appropriate hypothesis test for proportions to assess statistical significance. I would also review confidence intervals, practical impact, and guardrail metrics before recommending a rollout.
I would confirm that the drop is not caused by an instrumentation or data-pipeline issue, then compare the affected period with a relevant baseline. I would break the funnel down by step, device, geography, acquisition channel, user segment, and product version to isolate where the change occurred. Finally, I would connect the findings to recent releases or campaigns and propose follow-up analysis or remediation.
I would define cohorts by each user's signup date or signup week, then join subsequent activity events to those cohorts. I would use date functions, conditional aggregation, and window functions where needed to calculate active users at each elapsed period. The output would show retained users and retention percentages by cohort and period.
I start by identifying the decisions the dashboard should support and selecting a limited set of well-defined metrics tied to those decisions. I document metric definitions, apply sensible filters and time comparisons, and include context such as targets or previous-period performance. I would validate the dashboard with users and refine it based on their questions and usage patterns.
I would clearly state that the observed difference was not statistically conclusive and quantify the estimated effect and confidence interval. I would explain whether the test may have lacked sample size, duration, or a sufficiently large effect to detect a meaningful change. I would then recommend a practical next step, such as extending the test, improving the treatment, or prioritizing a different hypothesis.

- Assist in building and analyzing user conversion funnels, identifying drop-off points and improvement opportunities
- Support A/B experiment evaluation: pull experiment data, validate cohort allocation (sanity checks), calculate uplift metrics, and summarize results
- Build and maintain dashboards for key product metrics (CTR, conversion rate, UV/PV)
- Respond to product team ad-hoc data requests — user segmentation, feature adoption tracking, campaign performance analysis
- Write and maintain SQL queries for scheduled data pipelines; assist in data quality monitoring
- Translate data findings into clear summaries and visualizations for product teams
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, or related field)
- Internship experience in product analytics or related data analysis roles preferred
- A natural curiosity to identify, investigate and explain trends and patterns in data
- Bilingual English/Mandarin is required to be able to coordinate with overseas partners and stakeholders.
- Understanding of A/B testing fundamentals (hypothesis testing, p-value, confidence intervals)
- Strong logical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
- Fast learner with curiosity about product strategy and user behavior
- Competency in one or more of the following:
- SQL (able to write complex queries with CTEs, window functions, subqueries)
- Programming (Python/R for data manipulation)
- A data visualization tool (e.g. DataWind, Tableau, PowerBI)
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with event tracking / behavioral analytics (Sensors, Mixpanel, GA)
- Familiarity with Airflow or data scheduling tools
- Interest in crypto/fintech industry
- Prior experience with large-scale data (Hive/Spark environment)
