Sample interview questions
How would you improve the onboarding, offboarding, and access-review lifecycle in a Google Workspace-based environment?

I would first map authoritative identity sources, approval paths, SaaS provisioning, privileged roles, and termination triggers. I would automate joiner-mover-leaver workflows through the identity provider, enforce least privilege and MFA, maintain group-based access, and schedule evidence-producing access reviews for high-risk systems.

Describe how you would investigate a suspicious authentication pattern identified by a SIEM.

I would validate the alert context by reviewing the user, source IP, device posture, geolocation, login history, and related SaaS activity. I would determine whether the event indicates credential misuse, contain risk through session revocation or account controls where needed, document findings, and tune detections based on the outcome.

How have you used scripting to make a security process more scalable?

A strong approach is to automate recurring evidence collection, access checks, or configuration validation with Python and API integrations. I would make the script idempotent, log results, alert on exceptions, store auditable output, and turn repeated findings into tracked remediation work.

What controls would you implement to reduce shadow AI and support ethical AI use internally?

I would define approved tools and data-handling rules, prohibit submission of sensitive data to unapproved models, and establish a lightweight intake process for new AI use cases. I would pair policy with technical controls such as SSO, vendor assessment, data classification, logging, and targeted employee guidance.

How would you prepare for and run a security incident involving a corporate endpoint?

Preparation includes tested endpoint telemetry, asset inventory, escalation paths, response runbooks, and access to relevant forensic data. During an incident, I would scope and contain the affected device, preserve evidence, investigate lateral impact and root cause, communicate clearly to stakeholders, eradicate the issue, and complete a post-incident review with durable corrective actions.

The Role

You will work very closely with backend, firmware, and data engineers, with R&D and clinical teams, and directly with the Head of Security.

We are looking for an experienced Security Engineer who embraces an AI-first culture to enable them to scale beyond themselves. This is a generalist role with real ownership from day one: various portions of the security program including corporate IT, identity, AI Security, enterprise, and cloud. The ideal candidate has been “the security person” on a small team before — someone who takes whatever comes up, automates the second occurrence of anything, and writes clearly enough that engineers, auditors, and executives can all act on their work.

How you’ll contribute

  • Google Workspace administration, device management, and the SaaS access lifecycle — onboarding, offboarding, and access reviews that hold up in an audit.

  • Keep compliance green with code, remediate failing tests at the infrastructure level, extend Vanta with custom tests, and automate evidence collection.

  • Partner with internal teams to find secure solutions to enable them to achieve the company’s goals.

  • Vulnerability management and endpoint management on the company’s corporate fleet.

  • Build processes for secure and ethical AI in corporate environments to minimize shadow AI/IT.

  • Act as the security team’s second brain: triage inbound requests, run security reviews of internal tools, and run point on incidents

  • Tackle new security engineering projects.

What you need to succeed

  • AI-first mindset. We empower the team with the best tools available to scale beyond themselves

  • 4+ years across security and/or IT engineering, including time on a small team where you owned whatever came up

  • Experience operating a SIEM (Datadog Cloud SIEM, Panther, Splunk, Elastic, or similar)

  • Corporate IT fluency: Google Workspace admin, MDM, identity lifecycle

  • Scripting ability (Python or similar)

  • Clear security writing and documentation: triage notes, runbooks, and audit evidence that engineers, agents, auditors, and executives can act on

Bonus points for

  • Vanta (or Drata) ownership through a real audit cycle for SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA

  • Experience in a regulated or health-adjacent environment

  • Incident response experience beyond tabletop exercises
