Sample interview questions
How have you balanced feature delivery, technical debt, and operational reliability for an engineering team?

I establish a transparent planning process that reserves capacity for reliability and technical-debt work, alongside committed product outcomes. I use operational metrics, incident trends, delivery predictability, and customer impact to prioritize investments, then communicate trade-offs clearly with product and business partners.

Describe your approach to bringing generative AI capabilities into a production workflow involving sensitive data.

I start with a narrowly defined user and business outcome, then build evaluation criteria for quality, safety, latency, and cost. For sensitive workflows, I apply appropriate data controls, access management, auditability, human review for high-impact decisions, monitoring for drift or failure patterns, and clear fallback paths.

How would you improve delivery predictability for a team supporting both new features and production systems?

I would first assess the team’s workflow, dependencies, unplanned work, and release quality. I would introduce measurable operating practices such as smaller increments, explicit service ownership, release automation, meaningful planning metrics, and regular retrospectives that turn recurring blockers into prioritized improvement work.

What is your experience leading integrations across enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, laboratory systems, or payer platforms?

I treat integrations as product and operational capabilities, not just technical interfaces. I align stakeholders on data ownership, failure handling, security, observability, SLAs, and change-management processes, while designing APIs and asynchronous workflows that are resilient to partner-system variability.

How do you develop and retain high-performing software engineers?

I create clarity around goals, decision rights, quality expectations, and career growth. Through regular coaching, actionable feedback, stretch opportunities, and recognition of both technical and collaborative contributions, I help engineers build skills while maintaining accountability and psychological safety.

  • Experience managing the complete software development lifecycle while balancing feature delivery, software quality, technical debt, reliability, and long-term architectural needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve engineering execution, delivery predictability, and operational performance using iterative development practices and meaningful metrics.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering software for healthcare operations, revenue-cycle management, laboratory billing, claims processing, reimbursement, coding, or payer integrations.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled products, intelligent automation, document processing, operational copilots, or workflow-orchestration solutions in production.
