The role, at a glance.
Oura is seeking a senior iOS engineer for its Connectivity team to build and evolve the low-level app-to-ring communication layer. The role centers on Swift, UIKit, CoreBluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, scalable iOS architecture, and performance-focused maintenance of a shared production codebase. The engineer will work closely with firmware and platform teams while leading ambiguous technical work through implementation and release. This US-remote role supports a health and wellness product used by millions of customers and includes region-based compensation bands.

Sample interview questions
I would separate connection state management, device discovery, service and characteristic operations, retry policies, and persistence into testable components. I would model transitions explicitly, account for app lifecycle and Bluetooth state changes, use bounded retries with backoff, and expose clear observability so production connection failures can be diagnosed.
I would first establish behavioral baselines through telemetry, tests, and documented protocol expectations. I would incrementally isolate legacy code behind stable interfaces, introduce the replacement through feature flags or phased rollout, monitor reliability metrics, and retain a safe rollback path until the new implementation proves stable.
I favor clear module boundaries, predictable architecture conventions, focused code reviews, automated unit and integration tests, and CI checks for formatting and regressions. I also use technical design documents for substantial changes so cross-functional partners can align on interfaces, risks, and rollout plans.
I would correlate client logs, connection-state events, device and OS versions, firmware versions, and environmental signals to identify patterns. I would reproduce representative scenarios where possible, verify protocol and lifecycle handling, then ship a measured fix with additional instrumentation to validate improvement.
I identify the user outcome, constraints, unknowns, and failure modes, then propose a small number of feasible options with trade-offs. After aligning with product and engineering stakeholders, I choose an approach that is reversible where possible, define success metrics, and communicate progress and risks throughout delivery.
