Sample interview questions
I would first validate the commission plan, eligibility rules, source transaction data, and payment history. I would reconcile the records in Salesforce and the commission system, isolate where the variance occurred, document the findings, and coordinate with the relevant Finance or Partnerships stakeholders to resolve and communicate the outcome.
I would use structured tables, XLOOKUP or INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, PivotTables, conditional formatting, and data validation to compare source records with calculated commissions. For repeatable work, I would also consider Power Query to standardize imports and create an auditable reconciliation workflow.
I establish a documented close calendar with clear data cutoffs, ownership, validation checks, and escalation points. Before payment, I reconcile totals to source systems, review exceptions, obtain required approvals, and retain a clear audit trail for adjustments.
I would analyze recurring exceptions, adjustment volume, cycle time, and root-cause patterns. If, for example, a recurring Salesforce data field is incomplete, I would recommend validation rules, clearer ownership, or automation and then measure whether error rates and processing time improve.
I would begin with the business impact and the recommended action, then use a concise summary supported by a simple table or visual. I would avoid unnecessary technical detail but provide the underlying calculation, assumptions, and supporting evidence for anyone who needs to review it.
