Sample interview questions
I use a documented close checklist, reconcile balances to supporting schedules, investigate material variances, and obtain appropriate review evidence before finalizing entries. I also prioritize high-risk accounts early to leave time for resolving exceptions.
I have processed invoices by validating approvals, coding expenses to the correct accounts and cost centers, and matching documentation to company policy. For vendor onboarding, I verify required tax and banking documentation, coordinate with stakeholders, and maintain accurate vendor master data.
I would first confirm the bank balance, ledger balance, timing differences, and transaction population. Then I would trace the variance to source documents, identify whether it is a posting, timing, or bank error, document the resolution, and escalate promptly if the issue could affect reporting or controls.
I review recurring manual steps and error points, gather input from users, and propose standardized templates, system workflows, or clearer ownership. After implementation, I measure whether the change reduced close time, rework, or reconciliation exceptions.
I clarify the objective, deadlines, ownership, and decision criteria early, then communicate progress and risks in writing. When details are incomplete, I make a reasoned recommendation supported by data and seek timely confirmation from the relevant stakeholders.
