Sample interview questions
How would you investigate a suspected credential-stuffing campaign targeting an identity platform?

I would first validate the signal by correlating authentication failures, successful logins, IP reputation, device characteristics, user-agent patterns, and request velocity. I would cluster activity to identify attack infrastructure and techniques, then recommend mitigations such as rate limits, bot detection controls, adaptive authentication, breached-password checks, and targeted monitoring.

Describe how you would design a research pipeline for a new cloud threat-research team.

I would define priority research questions, trusted telemetry sources, data-retention requirements, and repeatable collection and enrichment workflows. The pipeline should support reproducible analysis, safe handling of sensitive data, detection prototyping, peer review, and a clear path from research findings to product and customer-facing guidance.

What security risks do OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect implementations commonly face?

Common risks include redirect URI validation flaws, token leakage, authorization-code interception, weak PKCE enforcement, improper audience or issuer validation, consent phishing, and insecure token storage. I assess both protocol configuration and application behavior, then validate mitigations through targeted testing and telemetry.

How can browser fingerprinting be useful in detecting account takeover while respecting false-positive risk?

Fingerprinting can identify meaningful shifts in browser, device, network, and behavioral characteristics associated with an account. I would use it as one risk signal among several, score confidence rather than relying on a single identifier, and apply step-up verification for suspicious changes instead of automatically blocking legitimate users.

How do you communicate a complex research finding to both engineers and external security professionals?

I begin with the attacker impact, affected conditions, and evidence, then provide technical detail appropriate to the audience. For engineers, I include reproducible indicators and prioritized fixes; for external audiences, I explain the threat model, defensive recommendations, limitations, and responsible disclosure considerations.
