Sample interview questions
I would explain the service architecture, traffic or workload characteristics, failure modes, and the specific decisions made around resiliency, monitoring, scaling, and testing. I would also quantify the operational or customer outcome where possible.
I would define clear domain events, durable Kafka topics, consumer ownership, schemas, idempotency rules, retry and dead-letter handling, and observability. I would ensure that state changes are auditable and that consumers can safely recover from duplicate or delayed messages.
I use clear domain boundaries, consistent API contracts, validation, structured error handling, automated unit and integration tests, code reviews, and documentation for important decisions. I also monitor production behavior and refactor based on operational evidence.
I would describe a concrete implementation using services such as ECS, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, or EC2, including infrastructure-as-code, metrics, alerts, and scaling decisions. The answer should connect technical changes to a measurable improvement in availability, latency, or operational effort.
I start with the customer or business impact, present the practical options and their risks in plain language, and recommend a path with clear assumptions. I avoid unnecessary jargon while making sure stakeholders understand cost, delivery, reliability, and future-maintenance implications.
